If you're asking me, Johnny's had the best pizza, but Pioneer had the better atmosphere. When I first moved to Baton Rouge in the mid-1980's, Johnny's made an unsuccessful run at trying to establish a niche in the already-saturated market in BR, but it wasn't for lack of trying, and many of the natives thought it was really good. When I was at LTU, I preferred the Johnny's just off campus for hooking up with friends and acquaintances, and for those of you who had to take speech, creating one of Johnny's muffalettas was a favorite topic among those who couldn't think of anything else to speak on (circa late 1970's).
