Re: CUSA Expansion targets: Temple, Tech, TCU
The cap on Louisiana university transfers to athletics is 3% of budget. If there is a university budget cut, 3% of that cut would have to be cut from the transfer to athletics...$30K for every $1M.
Velton refuses to admit that student fee money is collected along with and exactly like tuition money is. That makes student fee money no different from any other state money transferred to athletics other than the fact that student fees are almost always voted on and self-imposed by students. And since the Louisisna State Board of Regents rules link state support to student fees directly by a dollar-for-dollar reduction, they are exactly the same for Louisiana universities. You can't make an apples-to-apples comparison of any Louisiana university to any university that charges student fees for athletics without doing the calculations exactly as shown by Dawg06 in post #83.
For 2008-2009, 40.2% of Tech's revenues were from state money while USM's budgeted state money/student fee percentage was 32.5%. Tech's percentage should hold steady or drop for 2009-2010 due to strong revenue increases in several other areas, while USM's budgeted percentage goes up to 34.5%...student fee increase to offset other overall revenue decreases.

Where did you get these figures?
State’s 2009-10 athletic department budget is $35.9 million. Throw in Bulldog Foundation supplements, and it’s about $40 million. It does have $4 million budgeted in 2009-10 in revenue from student fees, but the large majority of its revenues are self-generated.

Re: CUSA Expansion targets: Temple, Tech, TCU
I just don't really think it fair for MSU to have to compeat in conference made up very large state universities with 90-100k stadiums and very deep pockets... A similar arguement could made for Vandy and to a lesser degree Ole Miss. The state of Louisiana would be much better with 2 SEC programs because of the population difference - 4.5 million in LA compared to around 3 million in MS. I it will not happen...
It may also be possible that the SEC breaks up and forms a new super conference with Texas, A&M and Oklahoma taking the spots that the above 3 now occupy... Kentucky moves to the ACC and FSU or Clemson is added - anything is possible and could you imagine the TV contact a conference like that would get???

The 2007-2008 numbers are from the database ESPN compiled from all of the annual NCAA-mandated Agreed Upon Procedures Reports they received by making Freedom of Information requests. Tech's figures from both years are publicly available since the Louisiana Legislative Auditor's office posts the Agreed Upon Procedures reports every year for all Louisiana universities. That is something not done by any Mississippi agency.
I have been using USM Budget Office figures instead of actual amounts. In 2007-2008 35.7% of USM's actual revenues were from student fees and university subsidy, a much closer percentage to Tech's than its budget numbers report.

This statement is laughable.
Don't pity MSU for "having to compete".....they are taking those ass-whippings and laughing all the way to the bank.
SEC has 2nd richest Media Deal in college football. They more than 200 Million in TV money every year. So don't shed any tears for MSU.

I agree........ Plus, MSU has the OPPORTUNITY to play for a NC. We don't. Now, what they do with that is up to them, but they have the chance.

When you consider the 15-20 million MSU gets from the SEC, their budget is not much bigger than Tech's. MSU has to be the worst job in football when it comes to recruiting. They're only about a 1.5 hour drive from Ole Miss and Alabama and Mississippi has a small population for recruiting. They lose out to USM recruiting in south Mississippi. They don't have any players in the NFL Hall of Fame, so, you don't have one player you think of when you hear Mississippi State mentioned.

Hey Velton- Was this your son? Forrest County=Hattiesburg... 1988... about the time you would have a son in college...
James Velton Knight was charged with selling 108.2 grams (approximately a quarter pound) of marijuana, a Schedule I control substance, to an undercover Forrest County deputy sheriff on or about June 24, 1988. On October 20, 1989, Knight appeared before the Circuit Court of Forrest County with his attorney, Travis Buckley, and entered a plea of guilty to the sale charge. The circuit judge, after carefully and meticulously determining that Knight's plea was knowingly, intelligently and
voluntarily entered and that he was pleading guilty because he was in fact guilty, accepted Knight's plea, adjudicated him guilty of the sale of a controlled substance and proceeded to sentence him to serve a term of three years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections; however, the court thereupon suspended Knight's incarceration and ordered probation after successful completion of certain other conditions which Knight thereafter successfully completed. On April 22, 1992, a petition for termination of Knight's probation was filed and a discharge order was entered that same day terminating Knight's probation.
So, what you're saying is, "eagereagle" (Velton Knight) is the father of a convicted drug offender? Oh, that's just great.
By the way, eagereagle also looks like he's older than dirt. When you are that old, you're supposed to be more respectful of others and become "nicer" with age. Just ask Coach Mick!! (Just kidding, coach. You look like a spring chicken compared to this guy!)
Eagereagle (Velton Knight) obviously didn't get the memo. Why would anybody on the CUSA board listen to this clown anyway?

I wasn't the one who posted the numbers for Mississippi State. And I didn't make up the criteria that the NCAA uses for its required annual Agreed Upon Procedures Reports. I politely answered your question about the source of the information to prove that it was not fabricated.
And while your link does provide some useful information, it also reinforces the point that any "contribution" amounts required to buy season tickets are counted as Ticket Sales and not as Contributions. That still means that Tech's unforced contributions amount exceeds that of Mississippi State.
And Tech's 2008-2009 ticket sales amount jumped to a decade-high $1,646,699 from that 2007-2008 figure that was near Tech's lowest over the last decade.
And this discussion is about CUSA and therefore USM is completely relevant whether you think so or not.

Does anyone have a list of how much in state funds other CUSA/WAC/MAC/MWC teams spend? I know good and well that Tech is not the only non-BCS school in the nation that uses state funding in some form or fashion. Such a list would go a long way towards proving what an obsessive nutcase this guy is, in that of ALL the schools in the country using state funds he decides to zero his insanity in on Tech.

Suing over talk on an internet sports discussion board where the information is all derived by a simple google? I saw the drug thing about a day before it was posted on this board from a simple google of the guy's name. Seems like some dawgs have hit a nerve. So how likely is it that EE has contacted this "guy" and relayed all this information (supposedly who is not a computer guy and has not seen it on the internet) and then he gets upset because his son's security clearance is threatened. Having lived in the intelligence world in the past, security clearances are not determined by what is on the internet and by the way, his "Big Brother" scenario about what is monitored and what falls right in line with the his delusions.

Re: CUSA Expansion targets: Temple, Tech, TCU
I think EE's credibility on the CUSA board has suffered and draws flack from most of the posters over there without input from here. I hope EE doesn't go postal!

I have had an active security clearance for almost a decade, and I can assure you that his clearance is not threatened by this. Smoke and mirrors by someone trying to create a controversy where none exists. Maybe trying to use it as a way to get sympathy from others on the site.
Moreover, if this stuff is all public record, then it was reveiwed when his clearance was granted.
But, part of me feels a little strange dragging his family into this. It's not their fault he's a douche bag.

You are spot on! Background checks include everything they can find on you from public records, interviews from people you provide and others they pick up on, and even your own input into the system. If his son did have an arrest for trafficking drugs and did not disclose it when he filled out the paperwork for his background check, he would not only not get the clearance but would be booted from the service.
This is a bunch of drivel and poorly disguised at that from EE.

If you are right and he is playing this silly game in third person, then I feel less bad about making fun of everyone around him. What a clown.

Right! If he disclosed it on his paperwork, there have been no further incidents, and he got the clearance, then there is nothing to worry about. A lot of stuff can be overlooked if it is disclosed and was a one time incident. Like WW said, if you did not disclose it however, you are in big trouble. Believe me, background checks for security clearances are extremely thorough. Can they miss things? Of course. But normally, they do not.
I agree, this is a smoke screen.

No, we must be fair and let GoGold have his say. GoGold has claimed that "'you guys' have clearly went over the line" and that you don't know "Eager Eagle". Surely GoGold will be on here shortly to vouch for EE since he should know him from their Southern Miss fan affiliation.
There isn't a Tech fan on BB&B which cannot be either vouched for or expose through the Tech fans network. GoGold should be able to do the same via the USM fans network. Let GoGold set the record straight for his USM buddy "EagerEagle".

We went there last time we were in Monroe....it was pretty darn good. I will definitely go back. I didn't realize it was his place until we were checking out and he was working the register, of course decked out in a big purple LSU shirt!

Bucky
Boudreaux's....
First time I ate there, he came over to the table to talk to the folks I was eating with to talk and they introduced me to Bucky - I stood up stuck out my hand and said "I'm Dwayne Woodard, Secretary-Treasurer of Claiborne Parish, but you KNOW me better as DWAYNE FROM MINDEN of Bulldog Barks & Bytes"....

I remember that. I don't think much came of it, but Tech Administration had the list and knew who was saying what.
I don't care much........ My name is Gary Bramlett, if anyone doesn't know..... :D

I think that they scribbled it down after Dan Newman threw one of his tantrums after our "squirrel" episode - he basically tried to call everyone out who hide behind a "screen name" -
Our ingenious posters - led by I think by Cartek - then started a thread where people started listing their screen name, real name and why they chose their screen name to prove that anyone who spent more than a few minutes on BB&B could basically figure out who the regular posters were quite easily....

Geez...no wonder out athletic department stood still for more than a decade. The people in charge were jotting down notes from BB&B instead of doing their jobs. Thank goodness for change.

Is boudreauxs still open? I tried to go there a while back and it was closed if I remember right.
As far as this thread goes. It started out fine but took a terrible turn. If anyone wants to get all of this straightened out then I will welcome, Eager Eagle, GoGold, Velton Knight and anyone else who wants to come over to my house in Madisonville and we can have a beer summit and put this nonsense behind us. Until then lets move this to the dawg pitt and get back to going crazy over conference expansion.

I noticed you failed to address my questions. I mean, surely you are not claiming a letter to a newspaper regarding a situation in AZ as proof. You have assumptions and accusstions. Being as you have no proof, thats all you have to offer.
Again, why include his alleged son? His alleged wife? Saddest thing is you think because its legal its perfectly fine, and you never give a thought to just how classless it is. Shocking thing is, this board accepts this type of behavior.
But credit where credit is due. You have your little midgets running around behind you, shouting in glee. Because, and only because, they are too stupid to think for themselves.
Regardless of the budget issue, pat yourself on the back, you have formed the opinion on LA Tech on at least one college football fan. Where you get your money from really doesn't matter.
The mystery here, how do you guys get so worked up over something so unimportant as college football?

I still can't understand why you get so worked up over La Tech. Since we all know who you are, can you explain what Tech did to piss you off so bad? You've spent years chasing Tech around message boards trying to cause harm to this little school in the middle of nowhere. why? What's the psychosis that drives someone to that? I can't stand ULM, but I would never devote my life to belittling them.

Exactly. EagerEagle/GoGold has a lot more ot answer for than anybody on this board does. The BB&B people are just good fans who love their school. But EagerEagle is a sick bastard who would do anything to purposely hurt LA Tech.

Is it so hard to believe that fans of Louisiana Tech are as passionate as fans of schools such as Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, or Georgia?
For many posters on this board, their priorities are God, country, family & Louisiana Tech. Except for a few that have no families.
That passion extends not just for the athletic program but for our academics as well. I'll predict right here that one day, Louisiana Tech will be an AAU member as well as a competitive member of one of the national major conferences. While I may not live to see the academic side of this prediction, I expect I will see the athletics part come to pass.
Nobody's going to hand it to us. We'll earn it.
As far as CUSA, I very much hope we become a member soon. CUSA is a good conference and we will be a great member. As regards USM, we respect the school and appreciate what they have accomplished. I very much look forward to the beginning of our series with USM. I think La Tech/USM will be a great rivalry and both schools will benefit from the loyal fans of both schools who will travel well to each other's stadiums.
Take a breath, EE/GG/WhoeverYouAreToday, we ain't da debil! But I'm wondering about you.

Yes, it's best to err on the side of caution. You don't want to get a booger in your jambalaya or a loogie in your shrimp po boy.

That made me laugh. Not too long ago a group of my cousins and I met to eat at that establishment. One of my cousins, who regularly joined us, wasn't there. I asked his sister if he was meeting us, and she said he wouldn't eat there, because he was afraid of what might get put in his food. Seems there was no love lost between him and the proprietor. I don't know what the issue was, and didn't ask. (By the way, that cousin didn't go to Tech!)

Personally (and this is probably true of most everyone...), I keep ALL sports in their proper perspective. Frankly, in the pecking order of importance, sports hardly, if at all, makes the chart. But! part of the fun of sports is jawing on message boards like this. So, don't mistake those of us that enjoy "jawing" with anyone who places sports too high on their list of important things.
Just having some fun, is all.

If you want to know for sure if GoGold is Velton, you can always ask the admins to do an IP trace. Stupid people like this don't realize how easy it is for sure to find out who they are.
In normal situations I would agree all of this was across the line. But if you are a flamer then there is no line.

Welcome, Lamike.
I have a few friends and relatives who went to Tulane, and a few who work for the university. How does the future of the football program look? I think everyone was a little uneasy when they talked about dropping football after the storm, but it seems pretty stable these days. What do the alumni think?

Here is one mans opinion:
We have been struggling to keep the momentum that Terry Bowden started with the undefeated team in 2000 before he jetted off to Clemson. Katrina was a huge blow as well obviously as you all might understand since you were neighborly enough to house our FB team that season.
We have had great skill position talent (a few guys drafted to the NFL every season) but we seem to perenially have the most injuries in CUSA every single season - I don't know whats up with that. I think most alums are optimistic that Toledo has been bringing in improved recruiting classes each season and this is the season we see some improvements in the W/L...
-
Re: CUSA Expansion targets: Temple, Tech, TCU
Tulane's undefeated team was in 1998. And that was Tommy Bowden.....are you sure you're a Tulane fan?
