Don't you know star is short for starting. duh.

Wow! What a story.
While I would have never hired Hammond as the new USM AD (for a lot of the same reasons stated in the article), I do believe it was a smart idea to switch next year's Nebraska game from Hattiesburg to Lincoln for $2.125 Million. By using this money to buy out Ellis Johnson's contract, Hammond figured out a way to fire Johnson (which was paramount) and practically wipe the slate clean in one fell swoop. And he didn't have to go back to USM supporters and beg for more money to do it. Pretty slick. A little dirty......but still slick.
This article actually makes me a little concerned about next year at LA Tech. Afterall, LA Tech will be facing a lot of the same challenges in 2013 that USM faced in 2012. Most notably, we're losing a lot of seniors (32), our starting QB, and our head coach (most likely). The parallels are shocking.

We won't go 0-12 though!
I hope....
Re: It Could Be Worse - Southern Miss Sells Its Home Game to Raise Money
We all knew on BB&B that Giannini was just another NLU/ULM know nothing that seemed to live to hurt TECH at critical times.
I sure wish USM the best.

Which, BTW, is part of the reason for this thread....
Re: It Could Be Worse - Southern Miss Sells Its Home Game to Raise Money
It's all because they made the wrong hire. I have confidence that we will not make the wrong hire.

Not much that comes off his talkshow I take seriously but, Paul Finebaum did drop Brett Favre's name as the next USM Headcoach...probably tongue in cheek! But could be a possibility!

That actually makes sense. Alums love him, he knows football, he lives in Hattiesburg, and might be willing to work cheap for his alma mater since he doesnt need the money...ala Karl Malone.

I actually think that makes NO sense. It's a really stupid move (to hire Brett Farve as HC), and USM can't afford to make any more mistakes. Farve doesn't know the college game, he doesn't know anything about putting together a staff of coaches, and he has no track record as a head coach. Has he even been an assistant coach at the college level?
This is a really bad move for USM if this comes to fruition.

He is also flakey and non-committal: "I retire....wait, no I am not....wait! I retire. Wait......".
Didn't he also e-mail a photo of his Johnson to some young chick?

Good point, he would cause a lot of delay of game penalties, both with play selection and because of hustling cheerleaders and cute fans.

SOUTHERN MISS
Who's out: Ellis Johnson, 0-12 in first year in 2012
Potential candidates: Taggart, North Carolina offensive coordinator Blake Anderson, Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Todd Monken, Louisiana-Monroe coach Todd Berry, Texas Tech offensive coordinator Neal Brown, Florida State assistant Eddie Gran
Fast facts: Anderson was Larry Fedora's offensive coordinator at USM and serves in the same role at North Carolina. USM reportedly interviewed Monken last year before hiring Johnson.

I hate it when I agree with HD.
