Re: Announcing the "MAYO" DOME. Really.
Naw, Davison jets do fine at Ruston International. However, team charters need that additional length on the south end, but the road to Kellys must be rearranged.
Y'all act like Tech is going to have to pay for this. There are FAA airport monies for this. If the Ruston airport doesn't ask for the money another airport in the state will.

Monroe Airport to Tech = 40 minutes
DFW to North Texas = 32 minutes
George Bush to Rice = 28 minutes
How far is Love Field to NTexas?
How far is Hobby to Rice?

Touche.
Coincidentally enough, a rural airport south of Baton Rouge is extending their runway to 5,000' with $4.1 million in Federal and State grants.

w/out looking it up, I think Love Field to Denton, may be as far as DFW to Denton. Not a good route from downtown to Denton for sure. Also, see FIM's post. Again, the airport situation never kept us out of C-USA.
Fine, extend the runway. We still don't have a place to stay in Ruston...for now.

DFW is about 2 miles further. As far as traffic is concerned, you're as close/fast as your CUSA-required police escort.
I never said an airport extension was a part of the C-USA minimums, but it wouldn't hurt. If we were a SEC-budgeted school it'd enhance our recruiting. By flying out of Ruston it would allowing our non-football sports closer access to the regional jets we'd be using (If you can dream).
What's wrong with working on both a full-service hotel and airport extension?

Being in this city every day, I personally see a deteriorating road infrastructure, a declining population, an increase in urban blight, underpaid first responders, and garbage everywhere. But hey, the new terminal at MLU is very nice.
Why would you think a new arena (proposed to be constructed in a dangerous part of town) tops a list of "needs" in this city, and more importantly, where will the $83.5 million come from?
An expensive arena is not the answer at a time when Monroe ranks in top 100 most dangerous cities, has over 200 million in debt, and infrastructure is crippling. One word: boondoggle.
This project will not create anywhere close to enough jobs to significantly improve the economic situation within the city.
How do you turn a 200 million debt into a 300 million debt? Build an arena. What a joke.
Re: Announcing the "MAYO" DOME. Really.
Dykes used to have the team stay in Monroe the night before games didn't he? So what's the big deal?

West Monroe. There is a big difference.

T-Mo,
What's the hold up if you say money is available? Is there opposition to extending the runway? Seems like a no brainer to me for all parties involved.

Yep. At the Hilton Garden Inn. I highly recommend if you can't find anything in Ruston.

Disagreement on the highway realignment south of the airport.

DD started this. He wanted the team together to have the same routine on Friday nights, whether it was a home game or away game.Dykes and Skip have continued this

Stayed in one this past weekend in S'Port. Very nice.
Re: Announcing the "MAYO" DOME. Really.
A 737 could land at Ruston at any weight config on a dry day with 250' to spare. It could also land on a wet day, but not at full load. This leaves no room for error though, so no one will fly one here.
The airport should have been planned for expansion, but they shoehorned it into a small piece of land.

It blows my mind Bruno was so slow making his Me-Too U move on this proposal.
