Blame it on early kick, on hunting season, on youth sports but in reality it's just the same apathetic fan attendance behavior that I have seen for 25 yrs
Will it ever change - who knows.
We won, it wasn't pretty but we are in FIRST place with 5 winnable games left. I'll be at all the homers whether there is 15k or 26k.
The student side attendance was horrible. No excuse. Weather perfect. Only have 5 games this season. Hard core fans like alot of us are the best, but we are few and far between. I wish there was an answer - thought student body let down their team today. Homecoming pray for great weather, but then Rice game on Quarter Break. Again, fragile fan base.

The core student base, who's gonna be there every week, was all there. but it's way too small a group. any ideas on how to drive student involvement?

No excuse? Did you see any social media marketing this week or during the off week? Think our staff might have been more wrapped up in dealing with the lsu/Auburn/Tech comparison on social media. It's not difficult to market to students. Very little social media contact along with ZERO giveaways. Yep, got to have give-a-way promotions to WAKE them up. Losing to NSU will cause a fan base to be fragile.

Until LA Tech puts a quality, reliable product on the field that fans can count on, you can expect more of the same. Losing that stupid game to NSU did more to hurt our schools reputation than anything we've ever done.
We must grow our fan base by drawing more fans from N Louisiana. But rightly or wrongly, many fans in N LA view our football program as 2nd class. Not big time. And the loss to NSU only re-enforced our "smallness" in many people's eyes.
Until the program can start winning consistently, this is the way it's gonna be. Either learn to deal with it, or start winning.

What I couldn't believe is how the students LEFT! A lot of students left at halftime and by the end of the game the student section was a joke (from a numbers standpoint).

Today was by far the smallest " student attendance" I've seen in JAS in over a decade.

Yes! N. Louisiana showed up in force for the NWST game and we laid an egg. We're still way too inconsistent as a program to expect anything different from our fans and market in general and that includes the students.

I think I heard you on the call in show. It was a good call.

I'm not happy about it either. But I've noticed a general trend of laissez faire towards athletics among the student body. Maybe that's because I spend my time in engineering. But it's not like you can just force/shame/convince people to show up if they aren't into it.
Re: post game call in show
What else is there to be into in Ruston at noon on a Saturday. Where were the students going that left the game? More tailgating?

Could not agree more on "smallest" student attendance and NSU loss , thus my "horrible" comment about student attendance. How do the East Carolina's and even UTSA only what 5 years old in football program garner their fan support (attendance) midst all the "Big" in their neighborbood.
Re: post game call in show
The "crowd" wasn't much into it today. Eleven AM doesn't seem to be a good time for Tech, and I think our remaining home games are early kickoffs. Also, I think it was too early for the officiating crew as they seemed unfamiliar with the game of football. They "gave" UTSA at least 14 points. My observation is that they lost control by allowing UTSA to play "dirty," which is Coker's MO from what I have read over the years. Tech was fortunate to win the game. I haven't read the stats but the defense played very well, sans the 3rd and 30 that was converted. Missed tackles on that play and a few others as well.

. We been talking about it "kcandidly " for 50 tears-- get over it. Honest assessment is we whine constantly like a bunch of know it alls. We don't come because weather bad, hunting season, concessions suck, defense sucks, offense sucks, coach sucks. We are frigging 3-0 in CUSA. I had pleasure of hearing coach Wooden speak in LA-- he said in middle of longest winning streak in history, FANS were whining -- great coaches could care less about "candid" fans---- get over yourself

Woah there big dog...I was there and yelling. I don't know much about football, but I recognize that the student involvement, that a lot of young folks like myself were a part of advancing, has taken a step back. If you "50 year" veterans what to preach to everyone to get used to the status quo then have at it. I'm never gonna be ok with the status quo.
