I'm also posting the rules to determine the # 1 seed below:
TWO-WAY TIE
1. Regular season head-to-head results. If the tied teams split, then proceed to Step 2 below.
2. Each team’s record vs. the team or tied teams occupying the highest position in the standings. Continue down through the standings until one team gains an advantage. When comparing records against a single team/ collective tied teams (before ties are broken), the following may apply:
a. If the games played against the team or group are equal, winning percentage prevails.
b. If the games played against the team or group are unequal, the following scenarios apply:
1) Most wins prevail only if the team with fewer wins could not equal that win total if they played the same number of games. Two examples of many scenarios that do provide an advantage:
1) Team A is 2-0 Team B is 0-1
2) Team A is 3-0 Team B is 1-1
2) Most wins do not prevail if the team with fewer wins could equal or surpass the win total of the other team. Two examples that do not provide an advantage:

3) Fewer losses do not prevail if the teams have the same number of wins and if the team with fewer games could equal or surpass the loss total of the other team. Two examples of many scenarios that do not provide an advantage:

If an advantage is not determined, proceed to the next team/group in the standings for comparison.

Only then, if the percentages are both 1.000, is 2-0 better than 1-0. However, the reverse is not true – no team gains advantage when are .000 (0-1 is never better than 0-2).

For me: We just need to take care of our game against USM to claim the no. 1 seed and regular conference champ.
We want ODU to beat WKU to put UTEP at 4 seed.
This way we only have to face one of UAB/ODU not both to win the tourney if we get to the final.

Sounds good to me, especially the part about us beating USM.

This should be moot because we should crush USM... but here is how I think our seeding should be analyzed.
We will be no worse than 2.
We could fall to 2 if we tie with UAB and lose the tie-breakers.
To tie with UAB, we have to lose to USM and UAB win both of their games this week.
Since we split the season series, performance against the next highest seed will determine who is first and who is second.
If ODU is seeded higher than UTEP, UAB is 1 because they beatODU and we lost to them.
It UTEP is seeded higher than ODU, TECH is 1 because we beat UTEP twice and UAB lost their only match-up with UTEP.
Of note, if UTEP and ODU finished tied, UTEP will be seeded higher based upon head to head victory. Western is not relevant for our seeding because UAB beat them as well.

Ties are broken in the standings from the top down, so a potential tie between ODU and UTEP would not be broken before the #1 and #2 seeds could be determined. The danger for Tech is if ODU sweeps Charlotte and WKU and UTEP loses one more to either North Texas or Rice.

We will not be lower than 2 but WE WILL be #1 when we beat USM. The other key issue is having UAB on the opposite side of the bracket. I'm not as worried about seeding of all the other teams. However, ODU doesn't worry me as much as facing UTEP a third time.
If we take care of USM and UAB finishes #2 or #3, then we should get afternoon game times rather than being in the evening session. C-USA places the "home" team in the evening bracket for games played before the championship. Although UAB is not at their home arena, they will be in their hometown. I don't want to think "tired legs" is the reason for a loss.

Since we split the series with UAB, it should go on to the final tie breaker which would come down to comparing records by winning percentage. Since we have a higher winning percentage by far over UAB, we should have clinched the #1 seed Saturday. The second scenario only applies if it was an uneven series. Since we split, we have already gotten the #1 seed no matter what happens if I am reading this correctly.

I can't believe UTEP lost to Southern Miss. Now, if ODU beats Western Kentucky, ODU will end up a 3 seed and have to play UAB on the other side of the bracket. That is HUGE, I had put our chances of beating both teams in the tournament at less than 50%. But if UAB or ODU can knock the other out, our chances of winning the tournament go up exponentially, IMO. Go Monarchs!
Side note, I am taking Friday off of work in a couple weeks and driving to Birmingham from Shreveport to watch the semis and the finals of the Conference tourney. Seeing how well our team does with crowd support, just look at the Northwestern St. game, I hope more can do the same.

I just hope we can play 3 games back-to-back without getting tired legs. And hopefully we'll have more than about 9 hours between our last 2 games this year. (That's still one of the stupidet things I've ever seen.)

UTEP is #3 seed over ODU if it beats both North Texas and Rice even if ODU sweeps Marshall and WKU due to UTEP's win over ODU. WKU would be #3 seed if it beats both Charlotte and ODU even if UTEP sweeps North Texas and Rice due to its win in Bowling Green over the Miners.
