The new contract is a joke. It doesn’t value the right things. Holtz should be rewarded on three things in significant/ladder ways,
In order: P5 wins, C-USA championship wins, Getting into Access Bowl, Access Bowl victory.
Holtz would never sign such a contract because he can’t do it. Look at the man’s history as a coach. He cannot get to 10 wins a season. He just can’t do it. He’s a steady end of career coach. Nothing will be new or exciting. Just vanilla. The powers that be at Tech were so worried about coaches leaving once they started winning that they hired someone who would never leave. They opted for vanilla. So we have many years of vanilla in our future and it’s just nothing to be excited about.
I love that some on this board (HD) were worried about Holtz leaving for Arkansas. REALLY???
Vanilla.
Re: Holtz post game comments
If the past few years are any indication, a 6 - 6 record should ensure a bowl invitation since 5 - 7 teams have been put in bowls just to fill all available slots. Having said that, at least 7 wins would be much better to ensure a bowl invitation (barring a repeat of the 2012 SNAFU). A repeat of 2012 is unlikely due to C-USA bowl tie-ins.

Apart from the whole 3 consecutive bowl game wins, right? Lots of Tech coaches have done that, right?

He's going to have orchestrate quite a turn-around to make it 4.

Nailed it.

So... Who gets fired after FAU puts 600 yards up on us?

You say that like firing is a thing that can happen here.

But I know nothing will happen.

Holtz has percentile dysfunction.

Tech will be bowling at 7-5.
We'll beat Rice, UTEP, FAU, and UNT. The ship will have been righted. The corner turned. Tech fans will feel great about the team, and make a good show of attendance at the final game. We'll be playing UTSA for a chance at the conference championship game.
Then, UTSA will walk in to Ruston and completely stifle our offense. We lose yet another heartbreaker and limp into bowl season.

He says that but I don't agree with it. The goal should be getting to the conference championship game. If you do that the bowl game takes care of itself. Once you are eliminated from conference championship contention, then the goal should be lowered to just getting bowl eligible. He has it backwards.

Where we'll win. Contract extensions all around!

Listening to Hotlz’s radio show, I’ll say this, he is very good at excusing mistakes and explaining away sub standard performances. He’s also very good at offering up praise to almost every player who plays. It’s understandable that he’d be that may in public on the radio. I’m hoping he’s more realistic with his coaches and players in the realm of team privacy.
I think Hotlz missed his true calling as defense lawyer because he can sure sell a story.

Maybe on the possible lack of unfilled slots nationwide. I have not analyzed that. Right now our conference has 6 guaranteed slots and 8 teams with winning records.
