Re: Shamed us all against ULM
Tech doesn’t seem to be a team capable of making things happen. They are the team that takes what happens whether it happens for them or against them. Maybe that’s what others mean by it’s just baseball… We show up, we go through the motions if we win or if we lose it’s just baseball.
Re: Shamed us all against ULM
Had a (formerly) good friend who is a ULMer make a special trip by my office to tell me about the game since he went. Insisted both teams tried to give it away but in the end they prevailed. He enjoyed it. Greatly.
Marked it on the wall so I won't forget since I've not done the same to him in the past.

Way to embarrass us Lane Burroughs.

I'm not saying he was totally blameless, but it wasn't Lane Burroughs who committed 4 errors or walked 7 batters. And don't give me that crap about him not getting the team ready to play. Hell, they are grown guys who should be able to motivate themselves to play. Did they forget how to play baseball in two days? It would be different if they always played so poorly, but we've seen flashes of decent play this season. Unfortunately, we didn't see much of it last night. Our relief pitching was embarassing.

Sports competitions are typically an exhibition of repetition. What you practice efficiently is the product you put on the field. Tech isn’t a consistently good team because our players aren’t specially gifted and our coaching isn’t good enough to make them noteably better. Motivation only fuels talent. If the talent is lacking words of motivation is just noise. It’s not all that complicated. Tech really isn’t a very good or well coordinated team. The best they can be is spotty. It’s sad and painful to say so because I love my Tech teams.

Acceptance is the first step to recover.
We all love Tech. Which is why we are willing to call out the cancer at the heart of the campus.
Are we willing to go to chemo?

With all of the justifiable critique of our team, I also want to extend a congratulations to the Warhawks on their win. They did what they needed to do.
It really DOES beg the question...how are we better on the ROAD, than at HOME? It defies logic to me.

Our HC has an answer to that question. He has been asked more than once. It's very detailed and has to do with too many distractions when they are playing home games.
Re: Shamed us all against ULM
Football was the same way. We managed to crap the bed at nearly every home game.
Back to baseball. We have consistently gotten worse every year under LB. He inherited a very good club, and now we have a team that will be lucky to make the tournament. That isn’t the direction in which we should find ourselves heading in.

Re: Shamed us all against ULM
Give the coach a break. They let Big Sim get by with it for 12 years.
Re: Shamed us all against ULM
That’s precisely the point. Not to begin to repeat a dark time in Tech baseball history. It’s way too easy to get on the wrong path and travel too far without correcting course.

It's easier to fall behind than it is to catch up.

That is a good point. I agree. We don't need another 12 years like that again.
Re: Shamed us all against ULM
At home Burroughs is
- 0-6 vs. Southern Miss, all as a preseason top 2 team eliminating us from contention on opening weekend of conference play
- 0-2 vs. Northwestern State
- Lost our first game to ULM in 12 years, and ULM is awful
That's really bad, but I have a hard blaming Burroughs for all this because he should've never been hired by McClelland in the first place. Tommy hired a small ball coach in an analytics era that's proven that to be a dumb style of play and while Tech plays in a small ballpark where the ball flies out of the yard. This is what we get when we have an AD who's in over his head.
Oh yeah, and Burroughs is 1-4 in the Conference USA Tournament.
