Re: Betcha Didn't See That Coming
This is a great move for Holtz. He'll be in downtown Birmingham where he can get football coaching lessons from Bill Clark at UAB.

I was never impressed by Clark.
I mean, he DID blow a 17 point lead to us in 2020.

Impressed or not he has won 2 conference titles and lost another one to the Lane Train. Plus he has won 2/3 of his games throughout his career and has never had a losing season. He could obviously teach Skippy a thing or two, if Skippy is capable of learning.
Re: Betcha Didn't See That Coming
Rumor is that they main reason they hired Skip was to save by not hiring an OLine coach, special teams coach, or OC/QB coach. Saved money on 4 extra salaries.

Not to mention re-built a program that was dismantled. He impresses me.

He was given the early version of the transfer portal and was able to play 25 year old guys against the normal ages.
Also, you can factor in our idiot commissioner's allowance for consistent rule breaking.

I agree that he got some NCAA breaks. I'm not sure everyone could have done what he did though (obviously it's possible some could have done better). I think it takes a certain kind of coach to do what he's been able to do.
Re: Betcha Didn't See That Coming
I think someone needs to send them the choo-choo meme for future use. It’s the least we can do for them.

Exactly. Plus, in addition to the CUSA championships and Division titles, I think Clark's team's are 4-1 against Holtz and LA Tech since football returned to UAB's campus in 2017. Honestly, I really didn't think I would have to explain all this. The coaching comparisons are NO COMPARISON! That's why I made the joke in the first place.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Lou called in a favor for Skip…That’s the beauty of having a legendary coach as you’d dad….unlimited dumpster fires I suppose.
Skip is a bottom feeder that does nothing more than ride the wave of his father’s success. Watch one of Lou’s speeches on YouTube and then watch one of Skip’s generic “we competed” speeches. When you see the two side by side, it feels like you’re seeing two different species, little long father and son.

Given some of the coaches who were rumored to be in line for head coaching positions, including some washed up CFL coaches, it makes perfect sense.

Doubt Lou had to help with this one. Games start in April and all 8 teams will play every game in Birmingham. Two teams do not even have a coach yet and all but one of the coaches are reruns. Plus only one other coach even had a job in 2021. Only thing they have going in a positive direction is $150 million from Fox.

They've got FOX & NBC backing them / 1st game will be broadcast on both networks. I don't think it will last though. I think Spring leagues need to focus on being AA/AAA for the NFL. Also, they need to be a proving ground for up-and-coming coaches/referees and place for the NFL to test out rule changes. The only way one of these will work is if it has the backing of the NFL (IMO).
