I do not think closing the south endzone is a good idea. It is that big space at the north endzone that looks bad. It makes us look like we are playing in a cow pasture. It is glaring on TV. Surely we could take down the wings and use some of them for the north endzone? All we need to do in the south endzone is landscaping. Also, add a brick wall to surround the field.
I am in the construction business. I am going to do some checking on cost for renovations of this size.
Remember on the south endzone you have earth work and embankments already in place that have settled over a 30+ year period and it already as a SIZEABLE structure on top of the hill - so stabilization should not be an issue -
All you basically have to do is frame up the rows and aisles for seating on each side of the walkway and start pouring concrete -
On the north endzone you are talking about a big infrastructute that would have to be built and attached to the current stadium which would encompass BIG $$$$ -
A jumbtron and alumni walk with a red brick wall blocking out the north parking lot would go along way in "eating up" the space issue - plus you still have the burns on the north side of the old stadium to allow OVERFLOW seating if it is ever needed -
The south endzone is the most cost effective way to go -
I doubt either will ever be done - but I just wish for once we would not take the approach of what is the minimal we can do to get by - and instead take the approach of what is the BEST we can build or buy with the money we can spend - QUALITY wins out over quanity ever time when talking "real assets"...
Just want to chime in and say that I think the game atmosphere would drastically improve with the improvements you all have mentioned. I think this would attract more fans. MichiganDawg had the #'s last year for the increase in attendance for the minor league team in Memphis with the building of a spectator friendly stadium. Same can be said for the Ballpark in Arlington.
Now, Dwayne, this alumni walk you write of, is it the same level as the concession stands on the east and west sides? Or is it field level?
Again, this thread is all about dreaming and spending money . . . IMHO I like the new modern concourse approach newer stadia have. You should be able to start at the vistors dressing room and be able to walk all the way around JAS on one level to the southwest entrance to the Wyly/Aillet Fieldhouse building.
Also, when you consider ground preparations for the north endzone area do you remember the dirtwork was placed there over bed of Pugh's Creek (which runs right down the middle of the JAS field?)

Field Level - like you I realize there is a hidden monster under the north endzone that is ONE BIG SINK HOLE waiting to happen - so a BIG structure down there takes up more work than most people imagine -Quote:

Basically my "alumni walk" is nothing more than a side walk with TECH football greats names and numbers and years of play "etched" in the concrete - nothing fancy, just something that sparks conversation...

I'm New to the board, but for what is worth it seems until you get an organization that will work toward the goals you talk about the money will lnot be coming in.
I will give you an example. You take a local High School down the road that has the same turf as SMU. The support program raised $350k of the money need to put it down.
Just finished a $2,000,000.00 weightroom/dressing room, and treatment center without one penny coming from the state or school board.Now breaking ground for 316,000 foot indoor practice complex again without stae support.
To me this is the answer getting an orginzation that can breing in money for that goal.
You don't need to call all of those people. I remember a few months ago Hogdawg said he would pay for it if we would name it Hogdawg stadium. And who could argue with him. HD if you foot the bill who are we to bicker with you over the naming rights? I say go for it!Quote:
