Folks who don't know the song.

I'll have you know, I know the lyrics and I sang "baby".
I am now prepared to receive the hate of the ruffled feather gang.

I have no problem. Not my cup of tea to do it, but I don't frown on it.

Think about that. I'm not offended, not ruffled, not complaining, but I am amazed you can use that response, given the context (as in lyrics).:shocked2: :D

Yep, I was 88-89 student orientation leader and we were encouraged to push the hand sign! I thought it was a little odd but learned to appreciate it as a unique unifier. I think all the other hand signs are taken!

The spirit hand gesture definitely has been around over 35-40 yrs. I like it. Having a Tech logo on my car, over the years I had many alumns honk and wave the bulldog sign to say Hi.
Proactive classes want their own signature identity.
Being a 1976 grad the hand gesture was non-existent.
And...the #1 gesture during the alma mater was also non-existant.
So,,,I guess we were a boring group.

Wasn't the #1 thing a Joe Raymond Peace thing (or at least originate during that time)?

Wasn't happening from '75 to '78...

Just a side note, but it’s actually “my Alma mater, my alma mater (maybe!).”
Those of us students who hadn’t graduated yet would always say “maybe,” indicating that there was no guarantee we’d graduate until we got that slip of paper. Haha

Honestly I like that better.
Re: Whats the deal making Puppy Ears with the hand thing?
I had always sung "baby" and heard those around me say it but that use of "maybe" does have some appealling logic.
Now let's get the opinions of the crowd that remembers stars in the endzones.
