And remember the year Tulsa went to the Elite 8 with Bill Self -
All he did was trot out a string of 6-5 to 6-9 kids and ran circles around teams -
Don't necessarily need a bunch of height to be successful - just need decent size and a good bunch of TEAM players -
Re: And the starting 5 are...
Are we talking national chamionship potential with this team? With one more top recruit it could be possible in the next couple of years. How amazing that would be!

National champions is a bit of a stretch right now. That is really hard to get to that level (and requires some luck). Let's cool the expectations a little from everyone. We are short on depth, short on big men, and our inexperience can kill us. Let's not get too carried away. As highly touted as DJ and Olu are, they don't get the "5 star rating" or rank in the top 5 in their positions. Even though recruiting rankings and stars mean nothing, they still give a decent view of how players are valued.
Even so we won't know what we have until the season starts. And 1 player can always make a huge difference. Afterall LSU went to the Final Four 1 year and then near the bottom of the SEC the next year after losing Tyrus Thomas (who was a 3 star recruit).

Gipson hit some big shots against southern illinois and texas tech last year, im hoping he can improve on that this year. DJ Wright is supposed to be a big time shooter and at 6-6, he should be able to get plenty of shots off. Olu is more of a slasher, but Ive been reading where he has hit some 3s this summer in some of these Elite camps.

Yeah, but we dont even have any 6-8 or 6-9 guys except one 6-8 true freshman who is supposedly very green.
Hopfefully all of our 6-3 to 6-7 kids can run and shoot past our competition.

Totally agree.
If we had shooters when Paul was here we would have been dancing.
Hell, if we would have just our FT's when Paul was here we might have been dancing.

We had one of the top 3 shooters in the conference on the team when Paul was here, KR just decided to keep him on the bench.
Re: And the starting 5 are...
I hope this staff will develop Gipson. He could be a guy that burns the opponents from downtown.
Re: And the starting 5 are...
Olu will not RS, he has said he wants to come where he can play immediately. Rupp has said on radio and in print he will make an immediate impact. No way he Red shirts. Given our roster there is simply no room for anyone to RS, even guys like Lathan and Timms, mims who may need a year, we don't have that luxury much less with our #1 recruit
Re: And the starting 5 are...
I also think Drew will be the starting PG. If Clark is so good why did he go JC route? I don't have much faith in JCs after the Richard era.

Haskins was a very good juco pg. If what I've heard of Clark is true, he will start from day one.

Haskins was very good. Not much of a scorer but did everything else well. I would be very pleased if either of our primary point guards were to play at his level.

If he had a spot-up shooter, he could've kicked out to, his assist numbers would've been out of the roof. Anyhow, I'm not necessarily contending that JC will start over Drew, they might play simultaneously. I anticipate multiple ballhandlers who can play off the dribble being on the court together.
