Good idea but I'd rather ideas on how we can score more touchdowns than the other team.
Here's how. We tap into our history and establish traditions that are unique and unifying. This in turn will help breathe new life into the program which will galvanize the existing fan base while attracting new fans. Furthermore, it will engage the student body in a more effective manner than was done when you and I were at Tech. All of which could lead to enhanced facilities, funding and recruiting. Which would increase our chances of scoring more touchdowns than the other team.
It's called the big picture.
GREAT IDEA!!!! A+++++++++++++++
Wonderful idea. I agree that it could be one of the great traditions in the game. If the BOP cant be involved maybe at least the cheerleaders should be. would like to to see the BOP adjust their schedule so that they can be involved. It would be much more meaningful than their gig at the presidents house, IMO!!
That sounds great, and I love that it's original and applies exclusively to TECH.
Plan it, promote it, and do it with enthusiasm!
On a side note, the only comment/suggestion I would make is maybe we could incorporate it into the pre-game band march around, like maybe the torch leads the procession to the columns, then as they are lit high in flames, the band marches through playing the fight song. (and the crowd goes wild)
Once again, very cool idea.
It gives me chills! I think that is a good thing.
I can see it being explained on TV before each game.
Now THIS is an idea worthy of execution. So much classier, there is a story, it's motivational, and it doesn't reek of small town school. Great idea.
I actually think this is what they are thinking about because they mentioned the torches coming into the field from the north endzone with the band, but I don't think the band will start with the rest of the procession if it begins at centenial plaza or the lady of the mist. They may meet up with the band at the president's house or something like that. That is stuff we still have to talk about. Yesterdays meeting was about the design of the torches, the location of the coulmns, and a little about the design of the columns. We played with a couple of ideas we could do with the colums, like being able to actually turn the flames blue and red or, what I liked, was every time we score the flames shoot higer. But thats all comes down to the cost, location, and actually the fire marshal more than anything.
Like I said, I haven't been on here very long, but the last day or two I've gone through and read a lot of posts. There is a lot of disappointment with how the University has done things in the past and I want to let yall know that I have been very impressed at how they have taken the idea since I gave it to Coach Dooley. They initially wanted to do it for the start of this football season, but realized that they wanted to do it right and not half-assed so they have given themselves more time and are going through every option. The school has invested time and money in it. I will be on here letting you know what is going on and if yall have more things that tie into our history and tradition, let me know.
I would hope the band is involved from start to finish. If bands can march in parades, our band can march from centennial plaza.
Cool, I like it! Light JO on fire too while you're at it.
This idea is absolutely, positively bad-ass. This one is by far the best thing I have heard of from tech in a long time. A big thumbs up to whoever came up with this one....it is definitely a keeper.
If I may offer a few humble suggestions:
It would be nice to have a big bronze plaque made with the inscription of the "bulldog story" on it placed on one of the columns in the stadium.
I think it would be ideal to have a small "eternal flame" at the chosen location on campus that will burn 24/7/365, sort of like the olympic flame in Greece that is never extinguished. Then the torches can then be lit from this flame before making their way to the stadium. You could even make a nice monument to that original bulldog, with perhaps a statue of him and an inscription of the story.
The most important thing is relaying the story behind the bulldog, and make sure everyone knows the connection between the torches and the bulldog. You don't want people thinking we are lighting torches just to be lighting them. Maybe the PA announcer could recite the bulldog story over the loudspeakers before every game as the torches are being lit. Come to think of it, it would make a great story to record on video (with voice by James Earl Jones, of course!) to play over a future jumbotron.
How about having one or two football players chosen each week to light the final two columns on their way down the ramp into the stadium?
I will happily put my money where my mouth is on this one, if there is a fundraising drive needed for this count me in.
