I think thete is legitmate research that can be done to deal with the human species adapting to changes onnour planet. There's also legitimate research in finding new fuels and such. The problem with that graph is not "scratched out"...
It's a problem of scaling. Show the data over the past 200 or 300 years, but you can't.
Secondly, and most importantly, correlation is not causality.
