First of, La Tech is not Baylor. They have an easier time getting local recruits than La Tech. Once again, if La Tech had the facilities- (practice facility, finger print identification entry to practice court and up to date video board), etc, money- (charter flights to every road game, Nike Elite sponsorship) and support -(Number 1 sport, Sold out games, Booster programs that brings in millions of dollars per year) that Baylor had, then Lacederius Dunn, Tweety Carter, Storm Warren, Markel Brown,Terrance Henry, etc would be at La Tech. But you know what, La Tech has none of that stuff. Some of you on this board need to take your medication and realize it's not 1985 anymore. The landscape in basketball has changed. Its an arms race in college basketball, its all about the frills, that's what attracts recruits and even coaches these days.
Second, even Mike Theus was the head coach here, his top players would still not be here. Markel Brown would still go to Oklahoma St, why, the facilities and support are ten times better.
Third, Rupp and his staff trying to get talent to La Tech, don't you think if there are kids as talented nearby, they would be here. Rupp offers the scholarship, but for high major kids like the ones I named to come to La Tech, you better be paying them or getting someone in their family a job or something.
Fifth, For those of you that don't know, New Jersey/New York is the hot bed of basketball, many college basketball teams recruit from out of that area.
Lastly, every mid major program wants to be the next Gonzaga. Well, if any of you remember, when Gonzaga started making its claim in college basketball, its rosters were littered with international players before they started winning conference championships. Look it up. Even now, take a look at Gonzaga's roster, it has four Canadian, 2 Austrailians, in its top 9 rotations. St Mary's took a page out of Gonzaga's blueprint and guess what, in the last five years, they have beaten Gonzaga and finally this year, made it to the NCAA tournament and beat a team or two.
Some of you people need to take that time machine to 2010 and realize that this is what college basketball is. As I said in another thread;
The game of basketball is an international sport, invented by a non American. Even at the highest level, the NBA, is filled with international players. The last 3 out of the last 5 NBA MVPs were international players.
