IIRC no ULL head coach has ever been hired away.

Maybe Mississippi State decided all they should care about is winning a bowl game, any bowl game. Hey Skip has won 6 in a row. Let’s get him. 😉

If Miss St was going to hire Skip, wouldn't they have already made that announcement? Methinks they are probably going after Billy Napier, but are waiting until after Napier's ULL team plays in a bowl game Monday (tomorrow) night. Maybe an announcement might come around game time?
There's also a lot of speculation now about "retread" coaches such as Gene Chizik, Butch Jones & Steve Sarkisian. But if Miss St can get Tulane's Will Fritz, that's probably their best choice.

I guess we will find out if Napier is telling the truth or not after the game. Appears he said in a PC today he was staying and not a candidate for MS ST. Maybe there is hope for Holtz after all. Still hard to believe a SEC school wants him. I hope they do but I believe they will have buyers remorse.

It's too risky with the greater possibility of being short lived. If money is all a coach wants, then it is indeed a lucrative deal, but if it's not, then they won't go. Other opportunities are ahead.
Re: 2019-2020 Coaching Carousel
Matt Rhule is the new Carolina Panthers coach. Baylor will now be looking, so some other shuffling may be going on.
Re: 2019-2020 Coaching Carousel
Mark Dantonio stepped down from Michigan State today.
Expect Skip Holtz to be named new Head Football Coach during press conference either Thursday or Friday. Expected contract $25M for 5 years. :icon_roll:

We should have paid him more.

It's nice to have SEC/Big 10 money to throw around even at the, uhm, less desirable jobs. No transfer portal in the real world. :icon_roll:

Yeah that money must be nice. $4.1 million to Dantonio last month in bonuses. Signed Tucker for around $5.4 million a year. Not bad for a guy with a 5-7 record as a college head coach.

They were going to have to money whip someone to take that job - Ohio St., Penn St., and Michigan in your division each year (mitigated a little by also getting Rutgers). All as the "little brother" school. And (probably the biggest issue this go-round) who knows what potential skeletons in the closet with the lawsuit pending over the fired staff member who is also alleging recruiting violations. And the timing is really bad.
They obviously didn't end up with their first choice - but anyone going there from a current HC position was going to take some serious money (because it's a serious career risk).

I wonder how much Fickell turned down to stay at Cincy, or how much he could have hit them up for?

Yeah Tucker found his.
