A day after President Joe Biden denied that border crossers could be paid off nearly half a million each as part of a Department of Justice (DOJ) settlement, his White House admits that such payouts will happen “if it saves taxpayer dollars.”

Last month, reports circulated that Biden’s DOJ, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) were working to settle with a number of border crossers represented by the ACLU, who claim they have suffered trauma as a result of former President Donald Trump’s “Zero Tolerance” policy that was briefly imposed in 2019.

Back in 1996 when Billy Boy was seeking reelection, price at the pump had spiked, so he flooded the market with oil from our strategic reserves. It did drive down the price of gas...some. But, the reason for rising gas prices is totally different. Biden is just plain stupid, and dangerous, and his asinine "adult" :laugh: policies have caused gas prices to spike. Under Bill Clinton it was a thriving, booming economy that caused increased demand for gas, and thus rising prices.

In case you don't remember, Billy Boy then did nothing to replace our strategic reserves. He left them depleted. When Bush became POTUS he recognized the danger and set about replenishing the reserves which meant the US government became a major oil consumer, driving prices up. You may also remember how the stupid Left and their moronic allies in the lamestream press spun that as just Bush helping his friends in big oil. To his credit President Bush did not give in, nor retort in kind. He simply did what needed to be done. I don't recall obummer having to tap into the reserves and that was because for 8 years we had such a sluggish economy that demand was never very high.

Now, under Trump, we had the best of both worlds, a booming economy and enhanced domestic production such that it covered the increase demand at the pump. ***

Under Biden, we have the worst of both worlds, a wrecked economy trying to recover and very little to NO domestic production.

Looking like worst inflation since 1982. To be honest, I have been expecting some inflation ever since obummer's ill-conceived/ill-executed stimulus thingy back in...2009, I think it was. Through various programs the Fed has been printing money and dumping it into the economy for a decade+. Read an investment article, which is promoting gold and gold miners, that says the Fed has increased the money supply by 25% just in recent years. But, why is the inflation genie escaping the bottle now? The economy was sluggish for 8 years under obummer, but did grow some, like 1 1/2% annually. Then it exploded under Trump, and I expected inflation to show up during his term. But it didn't.

It was fully expected that eventually the economy would suffer inflationary pressure since all that printed money had to be absorbed before it would settle down again. Er, provided the goofy guvmint didn't double down on being stupid...yeah, right, don't hold your breath on that one.

In simplest terms, Tightened business and production regulations means less product on the market which means scarcity of every day goods which results in price hikes?

Can't ignore the US monetary policy since the financial meltdown. It's the perfect storm that won't be remedied until the FED completely reverses course. The supply chain woes are just giving us a glimpse of what is coming.

I didn't disagree with Trump on many things, but when he started pushing for negative interest rates I nearly blew a gasket. Thank goodness he did not prevail with that idea.

I've got some good news and some bad news for the American taxpayer. The good news is that we are a few years away from having a die off in the Senate and House, with 10 Senators being AT LEAST 77 years old!! Goosey has proven to be wrong 99.9% of the time. I thought he might know a little something about the stock market and last spring he made a recommendation on an ETF. So, I said okay, and bought 100 shares just to see. Well....what a dog. It paid one tiny dividend and fortunately I dumped it at a modest profit of about $3/share, so I made $300! Woo hoo! But that is one lousy ETF. Maybe he knew it was a clunker and wanted me to buy it in hope I'd lose money. Certainly was a waste of time and resources. Read an article by Newt Gingrich on the whole Joe Manchin vs. Biden's White House matter. Newt has a firm grasp on history and cites Senator Byrd's run-ins with Bush I's WH staffers during budget negotiations in the early '90's. He also invokes other historical examples. Newt mentions those and later his working with the Clinton WH, much to the chagrin of Senator Byrd, who blasted him for circumventing the strict legislative protocol/process by daring to work directly with the administration.

Byrd told Gingrich that party affiliation was secondary to the separation of powers mandate. Newt, a (R) was trying to work with President Clinton, a (D) and it was Senator Byrd, a (D) who strongly "asked" Gingrich not to. Rather Byrd wanted the House (Gingrich was Speaker of the House) to work closely with the Senate, of which Byrd was leader, and together write a bill that the president could sign or reject. Whatever faults and flaws Byrd had, he did appreciate how the federal government was supposed to conduct its business.

I love listening to Gingrich when he is interviewed and always read his published articles. He knows the history of the government and also has a clear vision of how it SHOULD function. Newt writes that the amateurish Biden WH, and his clan of goofy staffers, have totally bungled the Manchin issue and not only have they lost his vote on this matter, but they have lost his vote on the next matter, and maybe several others to follow after that. Byrd lectured Bush I's WH staffers on how the cow chews the cabbage. That they were NOT elected, they did not represent any constituents, they had worked on Bush's campaign and were rewarded with appointed positions, and it was Congress that controlled the purse strings and wrote the budget(s). Joe Manchin is cut from that same cloth as a West Virginia senator, but not a Grand Wizard of the KKK as Byrd had been! Anyway, the goofy Biden staffers have been read the riot act by Senator Manchin...know your place.

I posted after the Dems stole the two Georgia Senate seats that the nation's near-term fate rested with Senator Manchin. Glad he has put the country first and stepped up to the plate.
