In the past 20 years the NCAA has almost made it impossible to form a new conference.
Re: Comprehensive Conference Realignment Thread
This is how fake news happens. Or it's idiocy. NBC's College Football Talk's headline said "Army and BYU Top candidates to Replace UConn." But the story they cited from Brett McMurphy said "Army and BYU Top candidates - if interested - to Replace UConn." Big difference.

The AAC has already stated that they will stick to 11 which is the smart move if they think none of us can add value. A one bid football league is the best we can hope for right now. Why not make it more enjoyable.
New South Conference
1. Tech
2. Southern Miss
3. UAB
4. Arkansas State
5. Rice
6. North Texas
7. Texas State
8. UTSA
9. Texas State
10. New Mexico State
Need to find someone to replace one of the Texas State teams.

LOL, I can be so scattered sometimes. I meant to add UTEP at #9. That would pair them with NMSU.
Travel Partners:
NMSTU-UTEP
Arky St. - Tech
UAB-USM
Rice-UNT
Tx St.- UTSA

In my scenario there would be at least five schools who have played together the required amount of time to form a new conference.

5 Years ago, I would agree with you, but they are all healthy alternatives to ULL, FIU, WKY, MTSU, ODU, Charlotte, etc.....

I would rather have Arky State than UTSA. I agree about NSTU. But I was really disappointed when C-USA chose UTSA over Texas State. I believe Texas State would have gotten better in C-USA. The last game we played them at San Marcos they put a ton of points on the board and they got Franchione back. He just couldn't recruit in Texas for the Belch. You know the one from TCU, ALA, and TAMU.

@ASUNSports Presidents have voted to enter in to a 60-day negotiating period with hopes of adding Eastern Kentucky, Central Arkansas and Jacksonville State to the #ASUN.

....what's the purpose of a conference announcing that they are negotiating with schools?

I doubt they announced it. My guess is that someone leaked it.

I don't see why UCA would be interested in the ASUN over the Southland. Seems like the SL has better (and closer) programs. Maybe I'm wrong though, I certainly don't know the ins and outs of FCS leagues.

And A-SUN isnt even an FCS league. It's a 1-AAA (non-football) conference.
It looks like they may be collaborating with the WAC to create a new FCS football (only?) conference.
Re: Comprehensive Conference Realignment Thread
@MattBrownEP: Hearing that the WAC's official additions of Southern Utah, Sam Houston State, Lamar, Abilene Christian and Stephen F Austin will be finalized in the next two-ish weeks.
