Naw. They were the Mavericks and their "Hook 'em Horns sign was made with the thumb and pinkie finger instead of UT-Austin's index and pinkie sign.
PS--This is possibly where DR is coming from on his "red and blue only" demand on the elessewe discussions.

Rebels from 50s until the late 60s, Mavericks from 1971.
Previously Grubbworms, Hornets, Junior Aggies (they were in the A&M system until 1964), Blue Riders, and finally Mavericks (barely).
The handsign is for "shorthorns."

You are correct. I earned my Master's degree from UTA. They did away with their football program for a while and came back. It has just been discontinued when I was there

That looks more like a gigantic decal that covers most of the helmet.

When you made a lot of big plays that's what it looked like.

Nevermind. I don't think were talking about the same thing.
I see the tiny red decals all over the helmet. I'm talking about the BIG, solid red area on the rear-right of the helmet. It looks like a solid, single decal.

Yeah, nevermind.
The only red I see is the helmet's red.
So, yeah, nevermind.

Ha Ha. I don't know what I was looking at. Thought the helmet was white.
I got it now. :)

:laugh:I tried to head this off earlier, but couldn't. I am a UTA grad and played bb for them in late 60's and we were the Rebels before it became taboo and yes we had red white and blue uniforms. I am old but, I can still remember that much:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Give Sonny D 40K and he'll make you see white helmets.
Re: Tech signature photos
The picture near the bottom of the page is definitely the celebration after Tech defeated Mississippi Southern in 1949. I was at that game, and I have always thought it was one of Tech's greatest victories. Coach Aillet did an excellent job in preparing his team. One of the things he did was starting on Monday of the week of the game, he made each player that came in contact with the ball, backfield and ends, carry a football everywhere they went on campus that week. It must have worked as Tech dominated the game from the beginning. The picture shows that everyone rushed onto the field in celebration. I am able to identify three guys in the picture. Starting on the far right, the first guy is Roland Barry, wearing a tie no less. The tall guy with a big grin is Kirk Ogden. The guy helping to carry the player is Sam Paschal.
