I am just making fun of the idea that politics is driving the stock market.
But if you are one of those believers, then you have to accept the negative side of it too instead of just championing the days that the volatility went to the positive.
At the end of 2018, after all this tumult, the Dow finished down 3.5%, its worst annual performance since 2008. Just think about that for a moment.
Again, I don’t think politics has much to do with the long term trends in the market. It can make the market more choppy as traders respond to all the signals. It usually doesn’t because it is unusual to have a president that comments so much on the Fed’s policy and otherwise says things that increase trade war risks. Plus the overall level of dishonesty of the WH creates this whipsaw effect as the market reacts to what sounds like good news and then reacts again when it discovers that the good news was far exaggerated. But this volatility largely comes out in the wash over the long term.
Well socialist Obama sure drove the market into being stale with his terrible fiscal policies. But Trump has driven the market upward with his awesome economic plans and deregulations put into action. TRUTH!
Now many things on the world stage can drive the market down but great economic news and policies won't.

The jobs report (caused by tax cuts and deregulation) and Powell's statement on interest rates.
I also think it is a good thing for the market in the short term, and likely a bad thing for America, that Pelosi is in charge of the house. Nothing will get passed because there will be no compromise (this is a good thing), but they will sow discord (like they have since the real election two years ago) and have the black shirts in the streets again threatening and producing violence.
The dems will continue to attack the results of a two-year old election, their "insurance policy" will continue to work behind the scenes investigating one person (instead of a crime) in an attempt to ruin him, and I suspect there will be some ugly incidents of violence from the whipped up "resistance" that intellectually shallow folks will blame on Trump (you wouldn't do that, would you?).
It won't stop because they've already worked the simpletons up, and it's too late to turn back the clock. In the future, no election will end on election day again. There will be an election, then there will be a long-running attempt to undermine the election by the losing party. Sounds like trouble to me.
Like the birth certificate thing? It’s funny to me that so many on the right are troubled by outlandish statements from the left. What are they doing but imitating Trump?
I suppose once reason is no longer valued, bombast and inflammation rules the day. It will, eventually, swing back, but probably not until the current path blows something up.
Well, it was actually Watergate and the resignation of Nixon that started the whole "elections never really end" thing. By resigning, he created an assumption that you can "fix" an election long after the election was over, if you just investigate and hammer someone enough to irritate enough of the population. He never should have resigned.
I don't see it swinging back. No power taken by either party or the government will be willingly given up. This is why I am in favor of Mitch not suspending Senate rules to get this budget passed (he could easily do so with a simple majority). Of course, dems will do it next time they hold a simple majority, and give repub obstruction as their reasoning (which should ring hollow to anyone witnessing the level of obstruction today...but it won't).
But your immediate finger pointing should show you the chances of it ever swinging back. You are in the majority with that.
My finger pointing? Please explain. If you took my statement to be anything other than a blanket comment about the left and the right, I must not have communicated my point very well.
It’ll swing back because extremists can’t accomplish anything that lasts (why your impulse on the McConnell issue is spot on).
Yeah Pelosi represents the socialist democrats. I don't have to read your mind. You compared Trumps chain yanking to the idiocy we have seen from the socialists over the past few days which has really always been their mantra.
