Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
This is hardly a new observation, but it's amazing how kids can go all day without dehydrating, but RIGHT AT BEDTIME (not 10 minutes before, not 5 minutes before, not 30 seconds before) it's like they've suddenly been in the desert for a week. You weren't thirsty at all at dinner (your cup is still sitting there half-full). You weren't thirsty for the last hour of running around/playing/reading/watching tv. You weren't even thirsty when you brushed your teeth (the water was right there!).
But the words "go get in bed" have some Pavlovian response.
It's uncanny.

Several test later, inflamed and bruised heart/heart sac is the general diagnosis, not blood clot. Unsure what caused since haven’t been sick, didn’t have a heart attack, don’t have HIV, and so on.
Going home today, resting, resting some more, then going from there.

You can marinate just about anything overnight in Coca-Cola, and make it eatable.

My kids waste so much food. They really only eat every 36 hours or so. Other than that it’s a nibble here and there. If I stop buying food for every meal and only feed them every day and a half then it may offset most of what they consume as teenagers.

Last one for today. I want to work for AT&T customer service. You don’t have to know anything except the printed statements that they tell every customer when they call wondering what the problems are and when service will be restored. Only requirement is having ears to hold the headset on your head and the ability to memorize about 3 statements.

At nearly 48 years of age, I have found the act of jumping to be the most unpleasant body movement. It is as if my hips and the earth have made a secret agreement that they forbid me to be off the ground.
Likewise the second most unpleasant body movement is the act of squatting. It is like the same hips and earth that forbid the jump have a second secret agreement that I shall not lower myself down by the squat.

I think cookies should be chewy most of the time, not crisp.
Chips Ahoy taste decent, but are crispy.
Chewy Chips Ahoy are chewy, but taste weird.
Nilla Wafers are better when they have aged into a softer state after opening the package.
Oreos should only be sold in Double-Stuff type.
Snickerdoodles are nice.

Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
Two
Warm
Chocolate chip cookies
Lightly crispy outside
Chewy inside
With butter cream icing in the middle
Drop the mic

I'm not quite 40 yet, but my knees and I have been having some "interesting" conversations in the last year or so. I think there may be some secret agreements taking place without my knowledge between them and the ground.

i know what this is: 5 truths and a lie. i found the lie. classic oreos have exactly the right amount of stuffing. double-stuff oreos are too sweet.
incidentally, oreos are best when softened slightly by a quick dip in milk or by sitting in an unsealed package for about 24 hours. nilla wafers are best when softened by sitting on the bottom of a banana pudding...

Got to spend a few days in Ruston. It was pretty nice. Interesting to see the changes that have taken place in the last two years.

Didn't get to get a Scatterload, though. Brister's was out when I went.

Because they don’t know what to do. It’s like a lot of jobs out there.. the passion isn’t there. You reach a point in your life where you’ll do whatever is easy to pay the bills. A lot of teachers were party animals in college that picked an easy major so they could float by and get that guaranteed paycheck with three months off.
You gotta think of the age of people when they pick their career. College makes you pick really early, before you’re done learning yourself.
-
Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
Why I would agree that some teachers do fall under this category not all teachers are. There are plenty of teacher's that go into teaching because it is their passion. My wife for example teaches Kindergarten and it takes a special person to teach these kids and to have the patience to teach them. She takes it very personally when a child is struggling and works on IEP's for that child to ensure they are progressing along and learning. Yes every child has their own learning curve and that is what makes teaching difficult. My own view on homework is that it is meant to challenge the child and to practice what is taught inside the classroom. Not to be the only means of teaching. I know not all teachers have this view and I truly feel for you if your child has a teacher that doesn't have the passion for teaching. I just don't think all teachers should be lumped in together.
Prayers for those in Ruston today that have been affected by the storms.
-
Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
ccp017, I agree that not all teachers are like that. We have been fortunate to only have 1 or 2 that have been tough to deal with.

That depends. Are we going to run a delayed handoff on the next play regardless? If so, I would say take 1st and 5. That way we have 3 downs to get 5 yards.

Which also had a passing attack that could put many teams in the country on their heals.
Never mind that was a Matt Kubik Zac Champion year in. Which we didn’t light up many teams with our passing.

There is a strip of restaurants and grills right across the street from the Haskins Center on the back side of the campus and we ate at several of them when I went to the basketball tourney out there -
I can't remember the names but the Mexican joint and the burger joint were really good

Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
Thanks. My group is definitely going to want to hit up a Mexican restaurant or two. New Englanders don't understand what taste they're missing because the food here Sucks. I brought a large can of Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning back with me from my last trip to Fort Worth (had to get swabbed by TSA) just to give the food I get here some taste. Zatarain's also helps but I only find it on the small Air Force base here, and I'm pretty lazy. No Tony Chachere's around here except for a few small cans of gumbo seasoning at one store (and not at the other's in the chain).
I really miss good food.

I'm a big Tony's fan. I prefer Zatarains because it costs less and seems to have less salt content. I recently opened a can of Tony's that had an overdose of salt. Really messed up some good meat and an omelette before I realized what was happening. Pretty sure the Tony's peeps are lsu fans who claim LaLaff and hate Tech.

What heat? In Louisiana?
We were in Boston for 4th of July back in 2013. Went to the big show with the Boston Pops Orchestra and the fireworks on the river. I was there for a historic symposium and we did Salem and the whole Freedom Trail, walking a bunch of it....it was hot. Also went to a Sox game...2:30 start time...it was HOT! Stayed to the end, Sox won a walk-off homer over the Padres 2-1. Long about the 6th inning my wife asks, okay have you enjoyed Fenway Park enough? I teased her the game would go extra innings after the Sox tied it 1-1...
We've had a mild spring this year, which means the summer will probably be brutal!

Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
tragedy has struck:
i just got a new phone (after my old one just wouldn't hold a charge anymore). i transferred my settings over from the old phone and everything went perfectly, except it didn't transfer any of my music for some reason. no worries -- i've got all my music backed up on my computer and an external hard drive, or so i thought. one of my willie nelson albums has a folder in both locations, but there are no files in the folder. i searched everywhere for the old cd, but could not find it.
while i don't think anything could ever take away the pain of this moment, i will gladly accept donations of old willie nelson cds or mp3s...
on the bright side, while rummaging through old cds, i did find an old promotional dvd put out by the Tech athletic department circa 2006 "Believe in the Blue". if i have time this weekend, i will try to upload it to youtube so that everyone can reminisce to a time when we had a football coach who didn't want to win too much because it might raise expectations.

while i don't think anything could ever take away the pain of this moment, i will gladly accept donations of old willie nelson cds or mp3s...
on the bright side, while rummaging through old cds, i did find an old promotional dvd put out by the Tech athletic department circa 2006 "Believe in the Blue". if i have time this weekend, i will try to upload it to youtube so that everyone can reminisce to a time when we had a football coach who didn't want to win too much because it might raise expectations.
Get a music app (I use spotify for $11.99 a month) and have unlimited access to all the music you want for 43 cents a day!
