Perhaps, the expression and discussion is the goal? Perhaps we hate the expression and discussion because it makes us feel uncomfortable. We want a "fix" proposition so that it will go away.
Maybe you're right that it would not be enough. I've been studying the issue quite a bit in the last year or so and I can't think of a way to "even the playing field" that would be equitable or sufficient. Does that mean we ignore that there was an issue that still persists?
