Re: 12/23 Tech vs Georgia Southern (2 PM) - New Orleans Bowl
Does anyone really believe Sloan has anything to do with how the games are schemed or play out? I seriously doubt it. Yeah he might say something now and then, but I suspect he’s overruled so often that he’s come to a point where he just doesn’t say much figuring there’s no point. I say that based on the fact that if it had been Sloan’s schemes and play calling that we’ve watched be so predictable and so subpar all year Holtz would’ve taken over to change things. Since nothing significant has changed and for sure hasn’t improved tells me it’s all Holtz’s doing. The same can be said for every facet of Tech’s schemes and playing. Holtz micromanages everything and short circuits all of it.
Far beyond just Tech’s QB woes this year I think the lose of Rattay has impacted our declining receiver performances and in general our whole offense. Holtz undercutting Rattay and essentially running him off has had a far bigger impact than just that one position change. Unintended consequences almost always will bite you in the ass as our asses feel now, red and raw.

Great post.

McFarland and the OL woes are the most likely fall guy.
Joe Sloan would be next on the block.
Nobody is getting fired this year.

LA Tech's receiver performance has been way down this year. Yes, our QB's were awful this year, but --as I outlined in an earlier post on this thread-- as a group, our receivers this year didn't do anything to help our QB's out. To cite just one example, when our QB gets flushed out of the pocket, nobody in this wide receiver group even tries to reverse course (if necessary) and run in the same direction as the QB to give the QB a new target. They just continue to futilely running their passing routes, even if they are going in the opposite direction of the QB. Nobody knows how to COME TO THE FOOTBALL. That's why our QB's can never find anyone open.

This year’s team was subpar at several positions. That’s on Holtz and the coaching staff. And they were very poor fundamentally. That’s on Holtz and the coaching staff. And they had very poor game plans. That’s on Holtz and the coaching staff. Might be a pattern here.

Correct!
Heck, I’m still incredibly PO’d about the UTSA game in that 2nd half. Take no prisoners Skip in all aspects of the game.

Correction! Sloan's offense scored ZERO points, Special teams accounted for the 3 pts. Smoke's punt return set us up, and the offense promptly went backwards, losing yards, before Barnes (ST) kicked the 45 yd FG. The offense was shut out by a lousy team.

Good point.

It’s as much Sloan’s offense as the TAC is my personal gym.
The offense is all Holtz.

It definitely plummeted after Hardy left. There were multiple times when nobody was open and the QB took a sack (should have thrown it away). Graham is not built to be a primary receiver and the rest of the outside guys couldn't get any separation. Smoke is very good in space but all they had to do was send an extra guy to him and make sure he didn't have any space. Hardy was the only guy who was rugged and physical enough to catch in traffic.
Re: 12/23 Tech vs Georgia Southern (2 PM) - New Orleans Bowl
At least with this loss, we won't have to hear that stupid proclamation about how Tech has won so many Bowl games in a row. I would cringe each time I heard this as it was touted as a coaching accomplishment. They would also step around the fact that the "bowl games" were the very minor ones at best, and usually against teams that were way down on their luck or minor as well. Will this have any bearing on Holtz being pushed out the door? I doubt it. They will now just pivot and say that Tech has been "invited" to xx number of bowl games in a row, again sidestepping the issue that darn near everyone gets invited these days. Do you think some ever wonder why no major university has tried to pluck Holtz out of Ruston? One can only wish.

Those fans are being told he has gotten offers, but turned them down. Same with Joe Sloan. Both coaches just love Ruston.

Don't underestimate how much they will hold on to that and think we're just about to turn that abstract corner...
...we've been trying to navigate for (at least) 19 years.
