Painting a ceiling is not in any danger of becoming my favorite way to pass the time.
Although I feel I should acknowledge my privilege here and admit that it's got to be worse if you have to use a ladder or roller-extender thing, which am I mercifully spared from needing for a standard ceiling.

There is much truth in your statement. The most recent change that starts showing "you might be interested" type stuff that's mostly advertising as soon as you are "caught up" is the most extreme example.

Something I've noticed since we've been walking the dog a lot more post Covid-outbreak. Very few people walk on the correct side of the road. It surprises me a bit. Especially as it gets dark, there are streets in my neighborhood where a car can't see you until the last second--not a time to have your back to them.

It's awful. Just awful. And what prompted my comment. Just below not offering a pure chronological feed option on the list of frustrations.
I understand that when a product is "free" what that really means is that I'm the product. I don't pay for Instagram, it was free to download and it's free to use. So they don't owe me anything, and I haven't quite reached the point of no longer using it, but that's really the only option other than just suck it up and deal with it. I also recognize that as the product, someone my age who just wants to share pictures of my kids with my family and friends and look at their kids/vacations is not at all their target demo, I don't use the app the way they want it to be used. I hate the stories and never ever watch them, I almost completely follow people I know personally, no "influencers" in my feed, I try not to interact at all with ads, I hide everything they try to suggest, I'm not on facebook so I can't link anything back, account is private, privacy settings maxed out. They wouldn't care if I deleted it (or even I suspect if all the other people my age deleted it).
But I probably would actually pay for the option to have a circa 2016 Instagram instead of the one that exists for "free." Every single "upgrade" since then has been a negative in my view (with the sole exception of being able to do multiple pictures in one post). I think there was briefly an app you could get that would scrape Instagram data and more or less give you a clean, chronological feed. But naturally facebook killed it. I am super cheap when it comes to this kind of thing, but that's one place I'd maybe be willing to spend at least a little money.
But I don't think it will improve. Users have complained about the chronological thing for 4-5 years now. It's universally what people want but they'll never do it because they're convinced they make more ad money this way (and they may be right). Same for the new suggested feed thing. If you look on Twitter or you Google "can I hide suggested feeds" you will find 100% agreement. EVERYONE hates it. But as long as they think it'll keep you around and get more ads in your face, it will not be going anywhere.

What's the best seasoning to put on popcorn?
Y'all traditionalists? Just butter and salt? Get spicy with Tony's? Something more exotic? We like to mix it up some, and have been trying some new stuff during corona season.

Mix a little Tobasco with your butter. Pour that on and then salt. Or instead of Tobasco use Louisiana Hot Sauce (which is mellower and not as hot as Tobasco.)

My childhood go-to was always Season-All. Still like it, similar vibe to Tony's. Probably a little less spice to it.
I like Cavender's sometimes. Dry ranch powder is an interesting approach (high risk of adding too much though, in my opinion, which is really bad).
We've tried all three of these that Alton uses over the summer and like them all. The cheese powder is probably the favorite of those (at least for me and the daughter), but I really liked the Furikake and Nutritional Yeast, too.

Everything but the Elote or Everything but the Bagel also good.
Or just about any combination of the above.
Maybe I just like popcorn.

Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
I do Molly McButter in my oil for the butter flavor and then just salt. Salt has to be the fine popcorn salt. Semi-purist.

Nachos are a treat for when I go to the movies or sporting events. But only if done right, which for me is just chips and cheese. Don't need jalapenos (though will a small amount of them sometimes), chili, other beans or meats, or anything else.

Last year I watched the national championship game with my Father-in-law in his hospital room. In February he passed away.
I miss him.

I suspect the anniversary of his death in a few weeks will be more emotional this year for my wife, but today's probably been sadder for me.

I'm not crazy about the trend. Among (many other) issues - my older kids can read a menu, but they don't have phones. So they've got to wait until I'm done to see a menu? Why?

I assume that's where this all comes from - trying to reduce contact as everyone figured out safety protocols and all. And I'm all for that (there is a reason I'm only noticing this trend lately). And Lord knows my menu (and for sure my kids' menus) would be the ones with the salsa and who knows what else dripping off.
It's worked out ok for us when we've run into it, but it did throw me a little the first time (and got a big eye roll the second time).

Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
I find it extremely hypocritical --and dumb-- for a restaurant or business to force across the board mask wearing of its' employees, but yet not have "contactless" (Applepay, etc..) payment capability at the check out counter. That 's just stupid.
So let me get this straight: Your business so concerned about my health that you force your employees to mask up like they are about to rob a bank, but yet, you don't have contactless payment at checkout? Oh, that's right........to sponsor contactless payments, your business would actually have to invest a couple of bucks setting it up. I guess it's just easier to LOOK like you are well intended by telling your employees to mask up, instead of actually modernizing and investing in something that really helps.

how do you politely and respectfully tell someone their question is answered in the email they’re replying to? “just read the previous message, you idiot!” is probably not the best response to an important customer. but it feels passive aggressive to just repeat the same thing, and it seems a little bit patronizing to explain something that seems self explanatory.

IMO texting dependence has caused this. We (me included) don't always read email replies thoroughly. I sometimes read what I expect or want to hear rather than what it actually says.

In appraisal work, we often times have clients who only care about the bottom line, so they skip the details. Then they email us back and ask, “did you do this, see this, or require this?” We simply refer to the page in the report and sometimes copy and paste the beginning of a paragraph so they know exactly where to find it. It is difficult to hold back when you really want to say, “read the report and get back to me.”

I have used that one in the past. Not sure if it would work that well in this case. It would help if i could read their mind. Did they just miss it, or do they not understand that the information there is the exact answer to their question?

Most industries --including the Appraisal industry-- bring much of this on themselves by including far more detailed info --to cover their azz-- than is really necessary. Remember, in most cases, the decision to buy the home has already been made by the time the Appraisal guy walks in. The reality is, most people don't want to waste valuable time reading all the impertinent details of most appraisal reports. My wife is like this. Just give her the square footage, the local comp info and the estimated value, and then get out of her way. LOL! On the other hand, I'm a little more detail oriented than most.
But, for goodness sake, telling me that I need to replace the rubber grommets on the water heater before buying this house because the "industry standard" has changed since the home was built in 2014.....well, it's ridiculous. (As a purchaser of several homes, I've run into things like this many times over.) And then somebody like you wonders why a customer didn't read that! HAHA!
Granted, many appraisal reports are written differently, but many are "CYA" documents, and have far more info about the small things than needed.
-
Re: Comments That Don't Warrant A Thread
HD, most often, the bank is the client. Even if it’s for a mortgaged property, the homeowner or home buyer is not the client. I am more referring to all the federally mandated mumbo jumbo. On VA, USDA, or FHA financing all those pesky details are what they request. Is all the wiring in the attic run in conduit? Does every light switch have a plate cover? Are all receptacles close to water supply GFIC? Then there are the disclosure about appraisers not being structural engineers, health inspectors, plumbers, or electricians. It is insane

My current "get off my lawn" issue is with Spotify, an app I like and use A LOT. Dr. Pepper Zero Sugar's taste is pretty close to regular Dr. Pepper. None of the other "no sugar" coke/soda/pop/soft drink come close to their counterparts.

That's because Dr. Pepper could gag a maggot, it sucks no matter how much sugar is in it or not. Worst excuse for a soft drink!

It would take something absolutely extraordinary to make it into the dawg80 all time bad take top 10. Because that is a seriously competitive field.
But this might be close. Maybe not all the way into the top ten, which again, would be a fiercely high (or low?) bar to clear. But it might be close.

Sugar is poison. So are most (if not all) sugar substitutes.
Saying that, I like pretty much all soft drinks other than Fresca and Pepsi. The 8 ounce cokes in a bottle that had just a small amount of ice build up in them are the best.

It's trickier with a can, but taking a sip and then putting it in the freezer for a few minutes is the best way to prep a coke. Just don't forget it in there (especially if you didn't take that sip first).

I have to disagree with d80, but just in one scenario. If you get a DP made with real cane sugar like they serve in Texas, it is way better than the bottled or tap stuff anywhere else.
