BlackRock CEO Larry Fink declared Thursday that Russia's invasion of Ukraine has "put an end" to the globalization seen in recent decades, while predicting the "magnitude of Russia’s actions will play out for decades to come."
Fink wrote in a letter to shareholders that while the pandemic created rifts between nations and companies, Russia's assault on Ukraine that started last month has "exacerbated the polarization and extremist behavior we are seeing across society today."
The war in Ukraine — Europe's largest war since World War II — will have ripple effects, the CEO noted, and could result in companies reexamining which countries they engage in for business.

He said this over a week ago. Old news.

I should clarify - he isn’t predicting the end of globalization, rather the peak of it. And the consequence of the scale back is going to be reduced economic growth and higher prices. The things Republicans love!

Latest count, according to my sources...

Putin has lost 2,750 armored vehicles, which includes 445 tanks. And a large number of those are his best tank, the T-72. They are thinly armored on the sides below the turret and that is exactly where the ammo is stored for their 3-man-crew, with autoloader. A hit there sets off the ammo instantly killing the crew and knocking out the tank. Usually, the turret separates due to the power of the blast. 445 x 3 = 1,335 tankers. Reports say fewer than 50 survived a hit, and all of them seriously wounded.

Putin has lost 67 helicopters, including several of their best, the attack chopper the KA-52. Most of the copters Putin has lost is the mainline Mi-28. He has also lost 38 jets, fighter-bombers, most being his best the Su-34.

Personnel losses have topped 18,000 with about 4,500 KIA, the rest wounded and/or captured. One NATO source puts the number at 40,000 which includes 20,000+ desertions.

Ukraine's losses are far less, and unconfirmed. One source says Ukraine began the war with 98 jet fighters and is down to 56 still operational as of April 1.

It has been confirmed that a lone Ukrainian attack helicopter, the older Mi-24, successfully crossed into Russia and destroyed a fuel depot and a command post, including killing 2 Russian generals. Putin has lost 7 generals KIA. The Mi-24 returned safely to Ukrainian territory but had to make a forced landing due to mechanical failure.

Also, confirmation that the ship that attacked Snake Island is in big-time trouble, burning uncontrollably after striking a placed Ukrainian mine. The Orsk is called an "alligator" attack ship, what the US classifies as an amphibious attack ship. It is a large vessel, designed to carry marines and/or serve as a base (supply) ship, with defensive weapons such as rapid-fire cannons and missiles.

It is not clear how the Ukrainians were able to place the mine near the ship, but one report says it was probably via a small ship (boat). Another report said the Ukrainians dropped the mine in the path of the ship from a 4-engine propeller mine-layer. But that is doubtful as Ukraine has only two such planes and neither are said to be operational. Besides the plane would have been shot down by the Orsk's anti-aircraft missiles before it got close enough to drop a mine.

Despite their best-efforts Russian damage-control teams are losing the battle with the raging fire and the ship is expected to sink soon.

I've said it a million times, Russia's entire GDP is only 3x our defense budget, so they cannot fight effectively for a long period of time. They will just simply run of of funds to do so.

Always amused me for people to talk like Russia was a big bad wolf. They are a paper tiger.

That said, I am amazed that they have not performed better in Ukraine. I heard some military guy doing a bit of analysis, and he stated that they have virtually no coordinated command and control, and the guys in the field are not able to make decisions based on battlefield conditions.

They probably have the capability of taking the parts of Ukraine they want, but that's a pretty low bar for a supposed "superpower"! It's going to cost them plenty in military assets and worldwide prestige to get it, though.

I think Putin will ultimately capture and annex the two eastern Russia-allied provinces and call it a "victory" claiming that was his goal from the beginning. The world will allow him to get away with it to let this mess end and Ukraine will survive as an independent nation, just a little smaller geographically. Can't say what will happen to Putin domestically, but I HOPE!!! he is removed from power.

Yeah, it is very interesting to listen to military experts speak about how pathetic the Russian military is. While in DC had the occasion to speak with a couple of US intelligence officers and they said they are not surprised by Russia's poor performance. One of them said, and this is exactly what I have posted several times re: China's military as well, Russia's military is nothing but smoke and mirrors. They do have nukes and that is the only reason no one wants to mess with them. Their conventional forces are simply NO MATCH for the US.

You might remember a couple of years ago I posted about the 1,000 or so US troops on the ground, with the Kurds, in Syria and the Turks, Russkies, and Syrians had 30,000 troops threatening to attack to seize a hydro-electric dam we were holding. A UK military observer was there and was interviewed by the BBC, he said if the bad guys were foolish enough to attack, they would be completely wiped out. The reporter cited the disparity in numbers, and the observer grinned and repeated the US will easily win this battle, should it occur. Of course, the Turks and Russkies, at least, knew that too and retreated. The Syrians should have known that too since they had only a few months before suffered a crushing, humiliating defeat at the hands of a few US troops. Something like 2,000 Syrian soldiers were killed/wounded and all of their equipment, including tanks, were destroyed when they ignored warnings to turn back when approaching a position held by US troops...about 30 of our guys on the ground.

My sources tell me Xi has taken notice of Putin's crushing failure and has grown very, very quiet with his boasts that he will seize Taiwan soon. Xi has extended an olive branch, of sorts, backing away from all his threatening rhetoric and wanting to lower the tension with the West. If the world steps away from the edge and some kind of "peace" is achieved, even temporarily, then some good will come out of this Ukrainian crisis. The bullies of the world...all extremist commie bastards and mooooslim terrorists...should learn from Putin's crushing defeat and behave themselves.

Land wars between modern armies are very difficult. I don't know if Russia has the same military contractor racket that we have, but we poured trillions of dollars into bombing Middle Eastern civilians for 50 years with no measurable outcome besides raw casualties.

Remember that there's more to it than GDP. Russia has a lot of raw materials, and we're seeing the effects now of those pipelines (real and figurative) getting closed off. Pegging the ruble to gold was the financial equivalent of a nuclear bomb (and something I wish Trump had done for the dollar on Jan 7, 2017). I am thinking that Putin sees this as an all or nothing proxy war in economic space - if he wins on the ground and causes a major shift in global currency (shifting from the worthless dollar to the ruble), that's huge. I heard SA will be accepting yuan from the Chinese for their oil.

Ukraine almost certainly has CIA and NATO advisers helping them coordinate, the Russians don't seem to have that. You're right, kind of odd. At the same time, the fixing maneuver to hold troops in Kiev allowed Russia to take their actual stated objectives along the coast. Have you listened to much of Douglas MacGregor? Retired Col, pretty interesting takes on our military situation.

You kind of threw me when you said we've been bombing civilians for 50 years (I don't think that is true), but did you really mean to imply that the ruble will be the global reserve currency after this is over???? Talk about hitching your wagon to a dead horse!

SA is ticked off because this clown show administration is making sure Iran has the funds to continue bombing their oil fields as they wish. I'd be pissed, too. Makes MORE ME war more likely, and will not stop Iran from getting nukes.
