Does anyone remember the Uniques and John Fred and the Playboy Band having a battle of the bands at the Progressive Men's Club in Shreveport?? Those dances were AWESOME!!!!

I never heard of "the Uniques" until this thread. But wow, they were real. Joe Stampley (originally from Springhill) was their lead singer. And their biggest hit "All These Things", was written by Naomi Neville, a pseudonym for Allen Toussaint.
For those of you who don't know who Allen Toussaint was, he was perhaps Louisiana's most successful song writer. He wrote a lot of hits back in the 1960's and 1970's for many artists. Many are songs you would recognize (e.g, "Southern Nights" by Glen Campbell.)

We had the Uniques at the Minden High School Jr-Sr Prom in 1966. Had John Fred at the Pelican Boys State dance in 1966 also.
You guys need to check out Jazz Fest in Da Big Easy. It's an absolute awesome experience every year.

Can't say that I've talked to many performers, but I would guess a lot are assholes. I did go to a Boogie King Reunion way back in 1976 at a club in Beaumont where they must have had about fifteen ex members, including G.G. Shin. If you had to be from Eunice wouldn't you be an asshole, too.
Speaking of Louisiana connection I found a CD of a guy named Michael Doucet and his band Cajun Brew and they sing several old rock songs in Cajun. I really got a kick out of Louie Louie. Who could tell what language anyone sings that in? Wooly Bully was a hoot, too. The only song in English was "Woman or a Man".
