Yes. They throw those things up like pop corn over here in Ouachita Parish. Amazing that people will waste money on tats, purple hair, and 3" eyelashes.

Sure it is.. We have a new sports complex and exercise equipment.... People will be flocking to Ruston for all the great jobs available.

Someone shoot this down or confirm for me....
I heard that, in order to be permitted to build the DQ by the new ballpark, they had to agree not to sell French fries and hamburgers since the ballpark sells those items. Is this true? If so, how did the attorneys for DQ let that go?

Why not just go to the new DQ and see for yourself?

Re: Peanut Buckets Coming to DAWGTOWN
Been by a few times and it didn’t look open. Maybe it is now.
-
Re: Peanut Buckets Coming to DAWGTOWN
I think it is open now. DQ sells Hot Dogs too, I would think that is a staple at the ballpark. Maybe true during events, but I can’t see DQ agreeing to that on a daily basis. But, i’m Going to DQ for steak fingers, chicken strips or a blizzard....

Last summer I stopped at a DQ in North Arkansas and they did NOT have steak fingers. My wife, father-in-law, and I just stared at the cashier in disbelief.

I heard this as well. Possibly an Arby’s going in on service road with the drive thru at Village Market closing down.
-
Re: Peanut Buckets Coming to DAWGTOWN
I actually had the thought a stand alone Arby's might be good. The one in Village Market had gotten icky, plus who really wants to eat inside a gas station? I don’t think people here go for that—see A&W and Quizno’s, the bbq at 33 and Douglas road, maybe the one at jefferson corner? They may have closed anyway, but being in a gas station didn’t help. Is the subway still in the one across from Hampton inn? If so, that’s the exception. No one likes eating in WM either it seems with mcdonald’s, their own little cafe after that, and subway all gone.
-
Re: Peanut Buckets Coming to DAWGTOWN
The new ownership was the downfall of that Arby’s. I was told corporate sent in some folks to test them and they failed miserably. They acted pretty swift in letting all the help go and shutting it down. I think that Subway is the only one still operating inside a service station.
-
Re: Peanut Buckets Coming to DAWGTOWN
Yeah, I knew when Karl let go of it and after seeing the names of those applying for a liquor license that it would go to pot. Not just Arby’s but the whole thing at some point probably.

Have not heard that anyone has bought from the knuckleheads they overpaid for it a couple of years ago. It appears they have built 2 pads in hopes they can sell them separately.
-
Re: Peanut Buckets Coming to DAWGTOWN
Got on here to ask that same question. Today it looked like they actually had a foundation or i could see white pipes sticking up. That mean someone is actually building something in particular?
-
Re: Peanut Buckets Coming to DAWGTOWN
I think the owners are actually going to build a truck stop or gas station. If gas station. That’s a huge area for it. If truck stop, way too small.
-
Re: Peanut Buckets Coming to DAWGTOWN
Whatever they are building, it better be a money maker. They are probably $3million in the hole with purchase + dirt work.

Re: Peanut Buckets Coming to DAWGTOWN
The Chicken Salad Chick location in Alex is killing it, right now. I was at the pool place next door, and the lines of cars was incredible. There was still no inside dining or regular take out so the two drive throughs are it. One line is for pre-called orders, moves faster, and the other was you gave your order once you got there.

I get what you're saying and I kind of hate the old CAB is gone, but you didn't have to go to too many classes before you realized the building wasn't built very well. Tech wasted money trying to save it a couple of times if memory serves.
I've told the story before of my younger brother being in the CAB lecture hall at the south end one day. They heard a "pop" and watched a crack open up from the ceiling down to the floor on the west wall. The professor watched it happen and said, 'Well, you don't see that everyday' and went on with his lecture.

Harper is coming down, but would of been cool if i turned into something like this. Harper dorm is in a primo location (center of campus, next to the student center, short walk to all major educational buildings).

Re: Peanut Buckets Coming to DAWGTOWN
I wonder if they can make a rule that no building should be built higher than Keeny Hall cupola or the clocktower after Harper and Wyly are gone.
-
Re: Peanut Buckets Coming to DAWGTOWN
Also with Harper coming down, they really have a chance to make Centennial Plaza a great outdoor student space. Maybe a small outdoor theatre for events, music or speakers. An extension of the student center from Tolliver could also be built to encircle the the plaza on three sides.

I was gonna check out my 1976 brick and clean out the lettering ruts with some Coca-Cola rinsed with some water, but, alas, the construction fence started with the Class of 1975. My fingers are crossed it'll still be visible.

Took an electrical engineering machinery class taught by James(?) Tarbutton of Tarbutton Road whilst at Tech. He was missing the end of one finger, and somebody in the class asked him how he lost it. He said he got it cut off in a knife fight at the Cheniere Inn, which everyone thought was really cool. Later, he admitted that the had accidentally cut it off by sticking his hand into the blades of an electric fan.

Re: Peanut Buckets Coming to DAWGTOWN
Trail Boss in Natchitoches, long known for their peanut buckets, and the discarded husks on the floor, has stopped the peanut thing for now due to the China virus. Makes sense since the wait staff would dip the buckets in a community barrel of peanuts for distribution. We dined there the other night, place looks clean and refreshed. They have added a pickup door whereby take out orders are brought to your vehicle. They have also eliminated some tables...not sure if that is temporary or not.

Re: Peanut Buckets Coming to DAWGTOWN
Yeah, I know. It’s actually been ugly since they painted it all black inside and then eventually got rid of the train and tv’s. Been depressing and gone downhill after that seems like. Now that i thought about it since my first post, I think I remember a rumor way back that they were going to build a new one at 33 and 20 where the gas place is going or on the corner of celebrity and 33. Maybe this is that but in a different spot with better parking, two drive throughs, and better visibility as opposed to being down in a hole. Would be nice. So it definitely is a new McDonald’s? Don’t think you were definite either time. Will just wait and see, I suppose, if you are not sure but speculating.

I don’t speculate. This is a fact. A new McDonalds will be built in the old Ryan’s parking lot and the existing McDonalds will be closed and probably demolished.

I didn’t mean I don’t like carwashes (well, the newer, nicer, clean ones like the Rocket Carwash on Farmerville I drive by daily and hopefully this one will be like that at first at least), but I meant I’m not thrilled it is right there front and center where another “not really needed food place” could be. Re: Peanut Buckets Coming to DAWGTOWN
Mexican or Tex-Mex? What's the difference?
There is a reason that so many Mexican food places are around...we eat that crap. Same with Chinese or "eastern" places.
I've never been one to rate one over the other as far as the food goes. It's mostly about service and salsa.

Re: Peanut Buckets Coming to DAWGTOWN
I like Posada’s. Haven’t eaten it in a few years, but I ate at one in Texas on the road from the Frisco conference tournament and thought it was good and priced well (at lunch).

Chuy's strategy outside of Texas has been big cities. I'd be really surprised to see them in Ruston (I don't even know of a Texas city Ruston's size that has one)
