Exactly! For all you out of staters that don't understand the criticisms of Jindal, this is a perfect example. Why won't he weigh in on this important issue? Isn't education supposed to be his top priority? I guess he is to busy passing voucher programs that all the good schools are opting out of. At least he will be able to say he passed this great programs, even though no one can use them.

And yes, I voted for him the first time. I THOUGHT he was the real deal. He is a TRUE politician. He just is smart enough to keep the corruption legal, and the masses believing he is making good changes.

Heck, come to think of it, it was his mentor mike foster that made lsua a four year school! How's that working out for higher Ed in louisiana?

Mike Foster did? All by himself? The legislature voted 100% against it. The Board of Regents voted against it. The LSUA administration said no to it. Everyone said "No!" But Foster unilaterally just did it.

You are correct, I should have said Mike foster used his influential power as Governor to push for making lsua a four year school. I am so sorry I didn't get that exactly right mr perfect.

If you think, even for one moment, that Foster was the reason LSUA became a 4 year school, then you truly are stupid. You are 100% CLUELESS about that particular circumstance, and out of touch with how these things play out.

I'll offer you a crutch, and help ya a little. Think about this: What is/has been Jindal's role, so far, in the Tech-LSUS merger?

But, NSU thinks just the possibility of the merger occurring is driving students to explore NSU.

Now, some NSUers are looking eagerly at LSUA. Some HOPE! the Tech-LSUS merger happens and is successful, and the state will consider an NSU-LSUA merger.

We all agree there are too many 4-year universities in the state.

Which is why I said a decade. I have my masters in SPS - Higher Ed Administration from NSU and worked in Student Affairs at NSU as well. Also worked at ULM for several years. I think I know a little bit about it. Over time as LA Tech's "Shreveport" campus grows into the research powerhouse it should, more of students will stay to go to Tech. NSU already draws mainly from Alexandria and East Texas. That East Texas pipeline will probably dry up as well with a strong Tech presence in Shreveport. NSU has nursing, Scholar's college, and education degrees. The main thing that has kept it afloat is online degrees. I know you live there, but take a step back and look at the bigger picture. NSU would not benefit from a Tech/LSUS merger. At most they may get about a third of LSUS students which would be what about 1500-1800 students. But how many they lose to LA Tech could/would be as many if not more. Plus a diminished status of influence in the Shreveport area because the Chamber after supporting the merger is going to be pumping sunshine about LA Tech through out the entire community. After ten years of that, I promise you LA Tech will be the school of choice for the majority of Shreveport/Bossier Students.

Tech SHOULD be the school of choice for 90%+ students now! But, it ain't.

In 10 years you say? Well, unless something changes, a sizable portion of the S/B student population STILL won't be able to qualify for Tech (admission standards) and/or afford Tech (it is more expensive than either LSUS or NSU).

You have accurately summarized NSU's strengths as they exist today. But, post-merger you can add one more HUGE asset to NSU. And that is, it is NOT Tech. NSU will be the logical alternative to the higher standards/cost of Tech to regional students.

I think the merger will be good for NSU (and BPCC too, of course). And so too do all the powers-that-be at NSU. For the reasons I outlined.

The point I was trying to make before you had to show your ass, was that the governors CAN have a lot of influence on these issues. I am sure that mike foster did not wake up on morning and say "I want lsua to be a four year school", but I would bet that a lot of his money backers from that area pushed the issue. Instead of doing what's best for the state as a whole and saying we don't need that, he came out and supported it. If you don't think his support for this had a rather large influence on the bor, bos, legislators, etc, then you sir are the one that is clueless.

If you don't think Jindal openly backing this (like foster did lsua) would help insure it happens then you are the one that is truly stupid and don't understand how these things play out. That was the point I was trying to make. Are you a lsua grad or something?

That means the merger has been endorsed by:
- The Shreveport Times
- The Monroe News-Star
- The New Orleans Times-Picayune
- The Lake Charles American Press

No newspaper editorial board has opposed the merger.
