To me, from the outside looking in, (not knowing the current Louisiana political landscape). Why wouldn't this merger pass?
The local business community supports it, the local city adminstrations support it, the local Black community supports it.
The only opposed are the LSUS faculty and LSU sympathizers.
Time to put the local legislators to task, either they show support for their constituents North Louisiana or they show support for a university 200 miles away, LSU

It appears to have enough support in the House to easily pass. It would easily have enough support in the Senate if Senator Barrow Peacock would support it.
Several individuals who supported Peacock's campaign have ties to the LSU system, but not LSUS. Currently, the LSU system has been transffering funds from LSU A&M in Baton Rouge to other LSU system entities, like the LSU AgCenter. It is widely believed that if LSUS went away, it would be the beginning of the end for the system itself. Entities like the LSU AgCenter would have to become self-sufficient and might cease to exist altogether if they did not. The medical schools and law school would then become part of LSU A&M in Baton Rouge. The group leading this effort is known as LSU One. Peacock has support from individuals aligned with the LSU system who are trying to stop LSU One.
In the end, for all I know, Barrow Peacock might actually believe the merger is a good idea. But he has allowed certain individuals to help him win office, and those individuals have their own agenda. Ironically, they couldn't care less about LSUS or Shreveport.
I've been around politics in this state all my life. Barrow Peacock is exactly the type of person the state does not need in office.

Pass or not pass, Peacock needs to be voted out. He has consistently vocally opposed this merger which is critical for the advancement of NW LA. He is ignoring the wishes of the vast majority of his constituents. He continues to reply to emails with his scripted response of "no Guarantees and Assurances" with the merger. It is very evident that Peacock is on the take from a small group of political backers!

You are exactly right. All this would need is a little public support from our governor and it would be done.

Peacock has yet to respond to the email I sent him several days ago. He simply has no answer. There is no logical reason to oppose the merger.
Re: The (LA Tech/LSUS) Merger Thread II
The "logic" of the merger opponents can be summed up in 3 letters. I'll bet we all know what those letters are.

Never forget that Adley and Tarver are standing shoulder to shoulder with Peacock.

Well let's start bombarding the Governor with e-mails and phone calls.

Re: The (LA Tech/LSUS) Merger Thread II
Just did it with this short note in the comments section of the e-mail.
I am writing in regards to House Bill 964, the proposed merger between Louisiana Tech and LSU Shreveport. I fully support this merger for the betterment of North Louisiana and the City of Shreveport/Bossier. I believe this would create a great university for the great state of Louisiana and help meet the needs of our ever changing economy and workforce needs. I am asking for your endorsement of this bill to help pass with the current legislation. Thanks you for your time and consideration.

I think Peacock is the weakest link. He's the rookie who lost his previous 3 races and will have to answer to his constituents. I guarantee Peacock will be voted out of office if he continues to oppose the legislation because he is only making enemies. The pro-merger business leaders have a lot more money and clout than his LSU AgCenter backers. To my knowledge, he's the only one who has responded to emails.
Adley is term limited, and I think only the governor, Flagship Coalition, Michael Martin, or Les Miles can change his position.
I don't think Tarver will change his position unless either of the other two do.
Re: The (LA Tech/LSUS) Merger Thread II
Request please. Can someone post a list of a few bullets of the pros/positives in this proposed merger? I have had a very informal discussion with a family relative (he is a "politician" in the Shreveport area) that is against the merger. I thought some clear and simple info would assist him to see the "light;" I did mention he was a politician, right? :D

This is what the opposition is reduced to. Letter to the Town Talk:

He has not responded to mine either. I voted for him last election but as I explained in my email this would cost him my vote next go around. Adley responded but only to ask for my address and it was from his office not from him.
