That is an awesome slot! Most people are off that day and will be looking for a game around lunch.
What would be a good time for a bowl game? 7:00 p.m. central on a Saturday in May (not Mother's Day weekend)?

When the bosses go and play, the underlings(me), get to stay. When I am in charge I will get to leave town around holidays. Not happening soon due to my superiors only being 5-8 years older than I. And we have family in town 1 time a year. They fly here to see us. Doesn't work well if us isn't here. One of these days we might play in the Orange Bowl and I can make it work.
No, it's a horrible time slot, and I was speaking from the traveling point of view. That early the day after Christmas on a weekday makes it impossible for a lot of people to attend who have obligations with multiple sides of the family for Christmas, and then there's the people who can't get off work. This time slot allows for no pre-bowl experience, which IMO should be the best part about the bowl for the players and fans. With this bowl, there isn't a single pre-bowl event with all the players, band, and fans. Most people have to do all their travel the morning of the game if they are able to go, and many live too far away to get to Dallas in time for a game that early. And for the fans who travel to Dallas on Christmas afternoon or evening, almost everything will be closed Christmas night.
What would be a good time slot? Try the Indy Bowl, which I was one of several on here that said that would be the best bowl for us this year because of the time. It's the next day (Saturday) mid-afternoon in Shreveport on ABC. Perfect. In all the previous HOD Bowls, the game was played early on New Year's Day, which is really the perfect day for a bowl game. Fans could party on NYE, and almost all of America is off work on New Year's Day. And then it was early enough to allow fans to drive home after the game if necessary. New Year's Eve is also a great day for a bowl, which is when the 2012 Liberty Bowl would've been for us if they would've invited us. Play a bowl game on NYE, celebrate that night, and then you're off work on NYD to get back in time if it's is on a weekday. In general, any weekend time slot will be a lot easier for fans to travel.
A lot of DFW Dawgs that aren't in touch with Tech or on BB&B are buying tickets directly from the Bowl. They don't know any better. I've told the ones I know but that's the way it goes. 06 is correct it's a tough slot. That's ok, I'm excited. Just want to win.
Most years, our bowl game will be an inconvenient time for most. That said, you've got to plan to prioritize this event and keep your schedule flexible. It's as simple as that.
If other things are your priority, so be it. But that makes those that do prioritize better fans than you.
Until things change HOD is the closest C-USA-affiliated bowl for our fan base. The lack of pre-game activities is a valid point. I hope this bowl is not set for the day after Christmas EVERY year.
This is ridiculous. You are preaching to the choir here. Almost all of us will be there and are bringing others with us. I bought tickets from Tech for me and five others, but there are several of my family and friends who can't go because they can't get off work that day or just can't make it work. That doesn't make them any less of a Tech fan. People have financial constraints, live too far away, have family obligations, work, physical conditions, and other legitimate reasons for either not being able to go or getting their tickets much cheaper elsewhere. But that doesn't make them any less of a Tech fan than you or any of us. Try putting yourself in other people's shoes. Again, our fans are not our problem.
Hey, I have 4 extra tickets due to one family backedout if anyone wants to buy them. Section 23 Row 5 Seats 18, 17,16,15

Let's see what the SBC and Ruston Tech fans are made of: this is easily a day trip for those who can't stay over for the night. Just remember, you SBC/Ruston fans.....DFW Tech fans do this every time they make a trip to Ruston. With this being on a Friday, and a lot of people off for the entire end-of-the week Christmas holidays, there is NO EXCUSE for all of you, and yours, not to be there! It starts at noon, so you will be home by 10:00 PM in Shreveport and 11:00 PM in Ruston, and that's assuming you will stop along the way.
Let's fill our sumbichting side up!
Make that trip to all Tech home games. Agree completely, the Ruston and Shreveport/Bossier fans have no excuse.
I stand by my statement. Tech fans need to plan for bowl games at the end of the season which may be an inconvenience. Those of us that have done so are better fans.
If you don't want to chip an extra $25 for our school allotment, you are labg.
I did and all the other ones except Pioneer!
our group just increased +2. we will bring it!!
What I plan for around the holidays is seeing family. A few days before Christmas with my family and a few days after with the wife's. Luckily they are in houston so I can drive up and back in the same day. The bowl slot is great for people who want to watch it on tv., terrible for those who want to go to the game. I'm buying three rickets and hoping I can get somebody to go with me.
