The nation, the world's third-most infected, on Sunday reported 78,761 new cases in 24 hours, passing the number posted in the US on 17 July.
The rise comes as the government continues to lift restrictions to try to boost an economy that lost millions of jobs when the virus hit in March.
An upsurge of Covid-19 in many rural areas continues to be a major concern.
On Sunday, global infections passed the 25 million mark, with 843,000 deaths. The US remains the most affected nation, closing in on six million infections, according to Johns Hopkins University research .

India's single-day tally on Sunday passed the one-day increase of 77,299 reported by the United States on 17 July.
Cardiology doctor, Manoj Kumar, told Reuters: "It is the largest one-day surge in cases worldwide and the reason behind this - because the pandemic is spreading in the rural areas."

When this China virus crisis hoax passes, and it will eventually, the economy will recover and the US is poised to lead the world back into prosperity. Individual stocks (companies) are artificially over-priced, inflated, and they will lead the downward correction. But, overall the US economy is strong and with proper leadership, Trump in the WH and hopefully a cooperative Congress, we will bounce back quickly.
I have some losers in my portfolio right now, amongst many more winners, and am riding it out. Fortunately, I don't need any of the money I have invested in the market...not that I want to lose it all! But I can afford to play it out and see what develops. As my CPA reminds me, losers are good. Can sell those clunkers in the same tax year I sell the big winners to offset the tax ramifications. Gotta love accountants, eh.
I generally agree. And lots of people aren’t that interested in selling their overvalued stocks right now because there is no other good place to put the capital...unless you are just planning to put cash on the sidelines betting that you will be able to buy in cheaper.
Taking a cash position is a good, a very good, strategy right now. I would recommend doing that if you are someone who is younger and still building your wealth. For me, I am set for life. Unless I get stupid and buy $million mansions and yachts! I can't possibly spend the money I am currently liquid in. So, I am I too lazy (yes, lazy) to take the prudent steps to closely examine my portfolio and take profits, get cash, and then buy back in after the correction. Nah, here's the TRUTH (facts). As is typical, and I can list a bunch of examples, the Dems were (still are) playing politics with the China virus outbreak. Their hope was it would get bad enough to cast Trump in a bad light, they did everything they could...to a point...to assist the virus' spread and to wreck the economy, which they know they have no merits on, which is designed to deny his re-election.
Hannity did not, and did not have to, omit any points. It's all there in plain sight for anyone, not blinded by a bad case of TDS, to see. Facts are facts. DeBLAHsio encouraging New Yorkers to ride the frickin subway and go about their daily business. That long after everyone already knew, and the world knew, that was not a good idea. Gov. Coma did not even use the tent city and the navy hospital ship provided to him. Coma did not even take steps to protect the most vulnerable, the elderly and in fact, made it worse by transferring virus-positive patients to nursing homes. That is negligent homicide! Murder!
Biden lashed out at the travel bans, calling it xenophobic. The video is there for all to see. Biden said it.
In the bigger picture, unlike YOU who is incapable of rational thought, I do view Trump through just one set of glasses...and they ain't rose-colored. Gee! Donald Trump is not perfect. Who would have thunk that!??? Wow! He makes mistakes? (and NO, I am not saying he made a mistake in this case, just that he is prone to mistakes just like the rest of you!). Abraham Lincoln made mistakes, FDR made mistakes, Ronaldo Maximus made mistakes, Bill Clinton made mistakes, obummer was a mistake.
I have been, and will continue to be, just as critical of Trump as I have been with all POTUSs. I don't care one iota about Donald J. Trump as a person, I only care about this country. His legacy will be a good one by doing well for this country. So far, his efforts have been heroic (with a few hiccups).
Trump merely delayed the truth from getting out. It just took others a little bit longer to get the info because eventually the truth gets out.
Biden did not criticize the China travel ban. That is a bald-faced lie. He criticized the Muslim travel ban.
