Re: Tech vs TAMU in Shreveport this fall
Anybody please offer any logical solutions to our current situation and then offer up reasons why this game shouldn't be played and I'll agree with you. I'm sure Sonny doesn't want this game but Sonny works for Louisiana Tech and Sonny and Co will do their level best to win this one. It will benefit both him, his staff, and our University to do so.
Without more fan support from the only logical place that it can be increased then we are not going to be able to sustain our current level of athletic endeavors, let alone increase them. This game gives us a great opportunity. Much more so than playing Lamar (whoever they are and wherever they are from) in Ruston...and we get paid for it. I really don't know who some of you guys think Louisiana Tech is and the status of our athletic program and our funding overall; not to mention the national perception of said program (which is zip-nada-nothing-zilch) but this is literally a once in a lifetime opportunity. Our own ex head coach, Derek Dooley, once confided in a small group of us at a special meeting that even coming from LSU and having played us that he had to look up exactly where Ruston was before he took the job. Wake-up folks. We need to build this program and this game could be a big stepping-stone; almost a cornerstone upon which to build this program. This is our chance to start a winnable season in a big way in our own backyard. Piss and moan and point fingers at the folks that run Louisiana Tech University all you want and see what that gets you. I think you can hold all of your "I wants" and "I wish" in one hand and take a crap in your other hand and either hand is worth the same. It is time for "I will" and "We can". This is what we've got and it's a great time to step-up and get this thing going.
Re: Tech vs TAMU in Shreveport this fall
Yeah, we should just schedule LSU, TX A&M, Alabama, Oklahoma, and Georgia out of conference. Being undefeated and playing in a BCS game (while we still can) is overrated. Just ask Boise and TCU where that kind of stuff got them. Fresno State has already proven that playing a bad-ass schedule gets you much more respect, money and better recruits. The "Boise model" will not work- wake up people.

I really don't like to bring this up but wasn't Ark State supposed to be an easy warm-up. Start with a TX/Am with a new coaching staff and them on the road and win.

Hawaii also had conference foe of Fresno, Boise, Nevada, LA Tech & Utah St. Not the same conference schedule. I love you man, but how many time do I have to keep repeating this?

Ya'll act like I am saying let's do what we had to do for the money as we were attempting to move from 1-AA to 1-A. I am not advocating that. With a weak conference schedule, we should schedule USM, Arkansas, Baylor & maybe Kentucky. The trick is not to schedule FCS when we already play in a weak conference. We must keep the attention of recruits, the media & pollsters. This is not accomplished by our 2012 schedule as it currently stands. Without A&M, VA is the only one potential top 25 team that we face & on the road. Please tell me that you can see what I am saying here. It is so clear.

The Boise model worked when they played in a competitive WAC conference and had the vast majority, if not all of their market share in their region. TCU has a hell of a lot more money than us and they got it from their alumni and student fees not to mention more state money from TX. This is an apples to oranges comparison. This conference realignment has definitely sped-up the need for success worthy of mention and changes everything. I didn't say schedule LSU, ALA, Oklahoma and Georgia which is a little over the top even if it is what gets you to the national championship game. Just a TX/AM team at the right time and in the right place. If you don't like it I'll buy your tickets to the game from you. I'm certain I can get the seats filled.

You can't really say that this is once in a lifetime since we have done this quite a few times before (even against A&M). Dooley really taught you how to poor mouth the university. There are quite a few posters on here telling us to "know our place" and get rid of our inflated view of ourselves, and then telling us we are scared to play A&M. Take a second look at who is scared. If some of us who hold Tech to a higher standard don't piss and moan we will continue to do the things we have done for 20+ years and here is a surprise to a lot of people... we will continue to get the same results.
I've always heard wish in one hand and crap in the other and see which one fills up first, but we've been crapping in our hand for 20 years hoping we find that gold filling we swallowed. Maybe a win over Texas A&M in Shreveport is that gold filling we've been looking for all these years. We've certainly come close to finding it in years past. We thought we found it when we beat Alabama in 99 only to find out at USC that it was just a piece of corn:laugh:. Some people on the board thought we should try something new and try to go undefeated and see if that could be the ticket to taking our program to the next level. Everyone is free to their opinion. If we are playing A&M I hope we win and I will do my best to leave it at that.

I will say this, I agree completely that the pre A&M schedule for 2012 is too weak to put out there year after year. I don't like playing 2 FCS games in a season. I don't like having no teams on the schedule that our fanbase can get fired up about. All that being said though, there is a system in place right now that has an opening that can be exploited to immediately improve our brand. Many of us wanted to take a shot at taking advantage of that opening while it still exists and A&M makes an already difficult task even more so. If we win it will make the end reward even more special, but if we lose it will just be more of the same old thing that has held us back for our 1A FBS existence.
Re: Tech vs TAMU in Shreveport this fall
alot of you dont want txam because you think it will hurt out bcs chances. So you would rather pass up a pay day vs a big time team in your backyard in a game you have a shot in on the slim chance that we run the table and go 12-0 and might, might make the BCS. Talk about going all in. Hell I dont know if we beat Illinois or Virginia. I think they are winnable games but certainly no gimmies. USM is always solid. I tell you what if we go 11-1 and the only loss is to TX AM ill think of something where you can humiliate me on my show. Our program is on the rise I dont knowif we re 12-0 good yet.

Regarding the first bolded statement, you may not need any help. Regarding the second bolded statement, it doesn't logically follow that if you're not 12-0 good that you should then load up on potential losses.
Re: Tech vs TAMU in Shreveport this fall
thats your opinion on the first one but I have been successfull for a reason. But Im not for everyone Batista. On the second one we are going to win the wac and go to a bowl game. I dont know how a winnable game vs TX am changes that.
Re: Tech vs TAMU in Shreveport this fall
Road games at Virginia and Illinois are comparable to playing at former WAC teams (Nevada, Fresno, Hawaii)--y'all are acting like we're playing at Oklahoma and Alabama. The A&M game is at home.

I wasn't badmouthing our University. Just trying to make a point. Most sports fans don't know who we are and where we are from. It's the truth. Even if we go undefeated they would look at our current schedule and shrug. The current schedule, while not a guarantee by any long shot, does very little to energize or expand our fan base in the Shreve/Bossier market. As far as the once in a lifetime I am referring to the way this schedule plays out and the timing of when we play A/M here in Shreveport considering the status of the two programs. I really want good things for TECH but I really think we have to make incremental strides and most of them need to start here in Shreve/Bossier. If we win this one and finish this coming season with a winning record and a bowl game AND BREAK GROUND ON THE NEW FACILITIES I think we are headed for some very good times.
