If true...shame on them!
Just heard one of the provisions tagged onto the crisis relief bill, now being debated in the Senate, was a demand that the US (President Trump) stop all military operations in Afghanistan immediately, and begin a withdrawal of our troops on the ground. This was proposed by a group of Repub senators. Or, so I hear. Look, I can agree our continued presence in Afghanistan needs to be strongly debated. But, this is not the time nor the method to secure legislation to make something happen. I have always despised lawmakers who hook unrelated stuff to important/critical bills. That is true if they have a (D) or an (R) behind their name.
So, if true SHAME on those Repub senators!
As for the topic...our continuing presence in Afghanistan. Well...I just read an article on British occupation/military operations in India in the 19th Century. Most of it focused on their war with the Sihks. In 1849 British forces invaded Afghanistan to crush assistance the Sihks were receiving from Afghan tribes. The Brits captured Kabul and defeated said Afghans. They left an 8,000-man garrison, supported by another 15,000 loyal tribesmen, to thwart further interference in the war in India. For the next 3 years the Brits fought a war in Afghanistan, winning and losing some battles. In the end, in 1852, a British general ordered all British troops out of Afghanistan, he said: "No foreign power will ever enjoy success trying to occupy Afghanistan." The Soviets tried, for 10 years, now we have tried...
Get us out.
But, please, do it on a separate motion in Congress...

More money for toilet paper and Little Debbie snacks.
Turns out it was one (R) who offered a motion to pay for the pending bailouts by shutting down operations in Afghanistan. That amendment was voted down 97-3 in the Senate.
Now the Dems are playing games with the planned bailouts, trying to create some new bureaucracy to manage the program. Shame on them!
Just an aside...
while this mess is creating an economic downturn and challenge, most retail stores (those selling "needed" products) have just enjoyed a windfall. Now, most of those benefitting are the large box stores: Walmart, Target, and the others like Dollar General, etc... A friend just FB messaged me his company has sold as much, in many products, this week as they usually sell in 3-4 weeks. Paper products, cleaning products, and stuff like that have been cleared from their shelves and from their immediate distribution warehouses. A lot of that stuff would have been still sitting on their shelves come March 31 and beyond, but it has all been sold. They have restocked and are still selling at an accelerated rate.
Now, restaurants, on the other hand, and businesses like that dependent on customers coming in daily, will suffer greatly. One client I have, owns three restaurants, two B&Bs, and is a partner in a hotel. Last week he stocked up on TP and such items out of fear his establishments might run out. Now, he has no customers but a two-month supply of supplies.
Just a few footnotes...
Anti-American liberal bastards!http://www.latechbbb.com/forum/image...s/furious3.gif Sorry......
- Former aides to high-ranking Democratic politicians are joining a so-called "coronavirus war room" in order to attack President Trump's response to the pandemic. Protect Our Care -- a nonprofit tied to liberal dark money groups -- announced the war room on Thursday, with its leaders accusing Trump of exacerbating the pandemic. Leading the war room is Zac Petkanas, a former adviser to Hillary Clinton and former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Sarah Chase, a former research associate for the presidential campaign of Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., is joining the team as well.
Patrick Devlin, former Communications Director for Majority Whip James Clyburn, D-S.C., will serve as an adviser to the war room as well. War rooms are generally set up within political organizations to provide rapid response to the media cycle.
- “This team has a wealth of know-how, experience and expertise and with the coronavirus crisis, which has been exacerbated by President Trump’s failure to prepare, we need the best in the business working on advocacy efforts to hold President Trump accountable for his failure to lead,” said Brad Woodhouse, Protect Our Care's executive director.
- Protect Our Care has been tied to "dark money" organizations like Arabella Advisors, which backs other groups attacking the president over the coronavirus response.
- Specifically, it houses the New Venture Fund and Sixteen Thirty Fund, both of which support another Democrat-aligned group -- American Bridge -- that's hammered Trump on the coronavirus response.
- The Washington Post reported on Tuesday that Pacronym is planning to spend $5 million on ads attacking Trump's response to the pandemic. That PAC is affiliated with the New Venture Fund and Acronym, whose board includes former Obama adviser David Plouffe. The ads will target five swing states (Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Arizona) and run on major digital platforms like Facebook.
