Well, if you look at it that way, any money the US has ever given China indirectly supported any gain of function research that they did, given that all money is fungible.

While we're on the subject, what are democrats afraid of?

Well, we weren't talking about that so why are you changing the subject?
But, there wasn't an insurrection any more than there was a summer of love. But you know that don't you?
Btw, how many Haitian immigrants are you signed up for? You voted for it so I'm sure you're going to be welcoming them to your house, right?
Well...that's a push. Now, if NIH provided funding to the Wuhan Lab, even if it wasn't specifically earmarked for something, it is easy to accept that the Chicoms funneled the money toward gain of function research. Much more plausible then say US foreign aid to China for flood control on a northern river being diverted to Wuhan Lab.

The National Institutes of Health earmarked $600,000 for the Wuhan Institute of Virology over a five-year period to study whether bat coronaviruses could be transmitted to humans, White House chief medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci told lawmakers Tuesday.
Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), told a House Appropriations subcommittee that the money was funneled to the Chinese lab through the non-profit EcoHealth Alliance to fund “a modest collaboration with very respectable Chinese scientists who were world experts on coronavirus.”
Fauci has also admitted that he did not know what all the Wuhan lab was doing. He said this before Congress.. I think he knows, but he has to claim ignorance so he doesn't go to jail.
Everyone except for those in Know-Nothing Land, knows by this point that the Federal government placed a Moratorium on “Gain of Function” Research, which was later lifted under the Trump administration.
The NIH funding was reviewed and determined to be outside the scope of the moratorium.
These facts are incontrovertible.
The folks that want to call it “gain of function” are referring to the most generic use of the term possible and not the use of the term as was prohibited.
More on the moratorium:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4271556/Quote:
research projects that may be reasonably anticipated to confer attributes to influenza, MERS, or SARS viruses such that the virus would have enhanced pathogenicity and/or transmissibility in mammals via the respiratory route. The research funding pause would not apply to characterization or testing of naturally occurring influenza, MERS, and SARS viruses, unless the tests are reasonably anticipated to increase transmissibility and/or pathogenicity.
You cannot possibly be this stupid. No way! "Know-Nothing" Land? You must be the king of such a place.
A moratorium? A moratorium? Gimmee a break! Try this! "Ah, we provided funding for a bunch of drug dealers to buy from the Mexican drug cartels, but we have a MORATORIUM on them reselling those drugs on the streets, so no need to worry."
President Xi recently threatened Australia with a biological weapons attack. Hello! He also threatened to nuke Japan, which is an obvious reference to their already suffering such an attack. But he did not threaten Australia with nukes, but rather biological weapons. Hmmm... and this is the nature of the commie bastards, YOU commie bastards! so please spare me the stupid "oh, there's a moratorium..." LOL! You actually think those commie bastards give a damn about some moratorium!? Really?
Again it is incontrovertible that the work that was funded with this grant was outside the scope of the moratorium against gain of function research.
And as a student of history you should know about the Know Nothings, and the obvious parallels to Trumpism. It is also a double entendre since Trumpists are anti-science and anti-learning.

I noticed the interim head of LSU Oschner (Shreveport) confirmed this morning what our local coroner and chief of staff at the med center here in Claiborne was saying last week -
97% of all new confirmed cases are in the unvaccinated population
