Re: Study recommending merger of LSUS and Tech to be released today
So, are there any significant obligations, debts, or other encomberments of LSUS that TECH should be aware of? Does anybody know what their endowment is? Are there any other "gotchas" that would make this less than desirable?

From a quick scan of these reports, I didn't find any red flags like there are for Grambling or ULM. I guess the one good thing about the LSU System not allowing LSU-Shreveport to expand recently is that LSU-Shreveport doesn't have to deal with much debt on the books.
It looks like LSU-Shreveport's endowment as of June 30, 2011 was $11,534,485. According to Page 87 of the LSU System report, LSU-Shreveport has no bonds payable.

Note 6 lists $4,703,457 of Endowments that are not included in the net assets figure. The LSU Shreveport is an excellent example of why net assets are not equal to the endowment because it actually lists the endowments that are included in the Liabilities on the audit report.
I am curious what would happen to their endowment in the event of a merger. It seems hard to believe that it would just be rolled into our endowment without any fight.

Good info and great guestion. $4.7 mil seems very low considering how long lsus has been around. What are the real numbers for all universities in Louisiana?

the 4.7 million is just the portion of the endowment from state matching funds. Total endowment is closer to 18 million.

Sorry about that. I was using the figure from the LSU-Shreveport Foundation report.
Re: Study recommending merger of LSUS and Tech to be released today
Net assets of the university foundation are NOT the same thing as endowment.
Here are the federally reported actual ENDOWMENT figures from 2010.
2010 Endowment Assets
$385,764,281 - LSU
$58,492,832 - UL-Lafayette
$51,878,741 - Louisiana Tech
$20,350,856 - UL-Monroe
$17,528,516 - New Orleans
$14,271,150 - LSU-Shreveport
$12,914,515 - McNeese State
$9,517,583 - Northwestern State
$8,878,043 - Southeastern Louisiana
$7,315,906 - Nicholls State
$4,049,609 - SU-New Orleans
$1,629,188 - LSU-Alexandria
N/A - Southern
N/A - Grambling State
When our endowment figures are broken down per full-time equivalent as they often are, Tech's endowment per FTE is greater than ULL's.

Wow, UNO's is much smaller than I would have thought, since they are a SREB Cat II like Tech and ULL;

Where did those numbers come from Dawg06? I have been looking for something similar.

USN&WR.
These numbers haven't been updated in the US Dept of Ed IPEDS database yet. The IPEDS database figures currently run though 2009, but the 2010 numbers should be added soon.
