Re: The (LA Tech/LSUS) Merger Thread II
Barrow Peacock finally replies,
I remain opposed to the merger and will fight against it. It is not in the best interest of Shreveport-Bossier. In fact, our constituents are opposed to the merger at a rate of 85 percent.
If LSUS and Louisiana Tech are allowed to merge, as HB 964 and SB 527 state, safeguards and assurances must be provided that require a postsecondary education system to meet the needs of our community with advanced graduate level courses. Our area of Louisiana, which is the third largest metropolitan area in the state, will be at a competitive disadvantage to compete in the global economy. With the importance of Barksdale Air Force Base, Haynesville Shale discovery, and our promising film production and digital media industry, Moonbot Studios & Millennium Studios, in Shreveport-Bossier, our state will be making a mistake to allow these two institutions to merge as currently proposed.

Use the info anyway you want.

It's the same cookie cutter BS he's been sending out for weeks. He's yet to respond to my email I sent him a week ago. Peacock will soon learn that this is his last political stand, and we will vote him out next term. The only opposition is a bunch of students and faculty at LSUS.

The thing specifically about his "Safeguard" statement... one key amendment was added in committee to have courses from SU-S and BPCC offered on the campus. I'm sure he isn't aware of this... maybe this would be an angle to call him out on?

I fixed it for him. This makes much more sense.

He never responded to my email, but sounds like he needs a "Enjoy your one & done term in the State Senate."

You mean big, bad Tech is out to get LSUS? :icon_roll:
Didn't say why this area would be at a disadvantage, just that it would be. Probably because we're too blinded by our own school colors.
He's wound up in politics. Let him stand against this, and let him burn when it passes and later when elections come around.
Re: The (LA Tech/LSUS) Merger Thread II
Let me take a shot at this and tell me what you think,
I remain opposed to the merger and will fight against it. It is not in the best interest of Shreveport-Bossier. In fact, our constituents are opposed to the merger at a rate of 85 percent.
I think this is total horse hockey. There is no way that 85% of Shreveport and Bossier City are opposed to this. All the polls I have seen show over 60% favor.
If LSUS and Louisiana Tech are allowed to merge, as HB 964 and SB 527 state, safeguards and assurances must be provided that require a postsecondary education system to meet the needs of our community with advanced graduate level courses. This is the problem right now. These needs are not being met by LSUS as the independent research shows. LSUS is severely inadequate to meet the needs of the economy of Shreveport/Bossier City let alone the entire globe.
With the importance of Barksdale Air Force Base, Haynesville Shale discovery, and our promising film production and digital media industry, Moonbot Studios & Millennium Studios, in Shreveport-Bossier, our state will be making a mistake to allow these two institutions to merge as currently proposed.
I'm sorry but this one is so bad it's not even laughable. Barksdale needs college grads? Oh and maybe you haven't heard of TECH Barksdale but we have that covered. The activity in the Haynesville Shalle is all but dried up at the moment but engineering degrees would not serve this industry? The film industry, please how much of the local economy is made up of the film industry and how in the world is LSUS serving the film industry. BBCC is offering studies that serve the film industry but LSUS? So our best bet in SBC is an Air Force base that could be shut down at the governments whim, a gas shale that is mostly inactive due to a saturated market and the film industry. In the worlds of John McEnroe "You cannot be serious"!
Who's lap dog are you Sen. Peacock?

It is not in the best interest of Shreveport-Bossier. (I believe the best interest for SBC is to continue the status quo that has served the area so well for forty years.)
In fact, our constituents are opposed to the merger at a rate of 85 percent. (I know that because I personally asked each member of Senate District 37 and counted up their responses. Or I pulled the number out of thin air. Same thing.)

Barrow Peacock (Future one-term State Senator)
Re: The (LA Tech/LSUS) Merger Thread II
How does he know that 85% of his constituents are against it? If true, then the public is not well informed - not surprising.
Re: The (LA Tech/LSUS) Merger Thread II
"It's not in the best interest of S/B? So the Chambers of Commerce of S/B and both mayors know less about their best interest than Peacock? Unforgivable.
Re: The (LA Tech/LSUS) Merger Thread II
I just sent him the following email:
Senator Barrow Peacock,
The reason for this message is to determine why you actually oppose the LSUS-Louisiana Tech merger legislation. As one of your constituents, I believe you owe me a real explanation. Since I have not communicated with you directly and have only heard of your position from others, I have the following questions:
1. Why is the legislation not in the best interest of Shreveport-Bossier?
2. What basis do you have for your statement that 85% of you constituents are opposed to the merger? Has there been a scientific poll?
3. What "safeguards and assurances" need to be provided that require a postsecondary education system to meet the needs of our community?
4. How will our area be at a competitive disadvantage by having a Tier 1 National Research university in Shreveport?
5. How is this legislation a mistake?
If you did not say these things/or disagree please let me know. Again, Mr. Peacock, I am asking for specific answers.
Best regards,

I voted for the "Honorable" Mr. Peacock in the last election, but if this is how he is going to represent North Louisiana, I will not vote for him for anything else again.
Re: The (LA Tech/LSUS) Merger Thread II
So is it true that Adley, Peacock, and Tarver are going around telling folks to vote "no"?
