Re: 2020 Season - Covid Edition
Covid has hit the purple and gold monster pretty hard. Salary reductions, lots of assistant/associate AD's gone and lost athletic revenue of $80 million. I cannot imagine Tech having athletic revenues of $80 million per year in my lifetime and LSU loses that much in one season. Unreal. Wonder when the bailout comes and and from where and how much it will be?

I'm sure that is painful to take a 5% hit, but better to keep the job than not. I still think I would be able to survive with the $300k hit Coach O is taking though. Has TECH had to make any cuts so far? This is brutal for every sports budget this year!

I'm sure we've taken hits. I wouldn't be surprised if Dr. Wood's new contract is stepped, paying him less the first years and more in the last years.

Big 10 should have built in more cushion for cancelled games.

And they have very tight guidelines, I think they are going to have lots of cancelled games.

I agree. They're also dealing with pretty big COVID outbreaks in the community at large (especially Wisconsin I think).
I wonder if the Pac 12 and MWC will do any better? They've also banked on getting a lot of games in all in a row with very little wiggle room.
I still think we're going to see some funny looking final standings this year. Poor Marshall fans have been all worked up over not getting enough games in to qualify for the conference championship on the CUSA board (well, I should say a few of their fans are definitely freaking out over the possibility). I guess they want more conference intervention or forced forfeits or something. Personally, I kinda think it's just one of those things. I can't believe anyone expected to get every scheduled game in. How do you not assume some last second cancellations? Seems like you'd have seen that coming a long way off.

I was not aware of this. How many games are required?

The Houston Chronicle article doesn't work for me (paywall) but according to the thread it's
Quote:
Any conference team that plays at least 1 fewer conference game than the average number of conference games played by other members participating in a fall schedule is eligible for the championship. Meaning if the average number of conference games remains as it currently is at 7, any school playing 6 or more will be eligible for the championship.

:)
I suspect every school's fans will prefer the system that benefits their team the most.
I also kind of think it will all come out in the wash - I can't see Marshall being left out of the CUSA championship game if they haven't lost a regular season conference game. But if this gets us in the title game somehow, I'll take it.

They can make up any missed games on December 5 or 12 - They also have an open date on November 28, but I'm sure everyone else is playing (I think it was originally ODU game).

Yeah, I'm not really worried about them.
I do wonder what the delta will be between the most and least number of games for this season though. Can't really count the FCS teams that snuck in their money games but are technically playing (they hope) in spring. In a normal year you'd usually just have something like 11 (for a team who lost a game due to weather or something) to 15 (for a team in the title game). It's not hard to imagine a team getting in just 6 on the low end, with I guess something like 12ish or even 13 if you were in the playoff, right?
Re: 2020 Season - Covid Edition
I think UAB and Marshall should play since they both missed an ODU game.
