The song's lyrics --"Do this, Don't Do That, Can't You Read The Sign", are just as powerful today as they were in 1971. Especially with today's signs about COVID, mask wearing, get your vaccine, etc.... People just love to tell other people what to do. This is a song with powerful lyrics that will still be admired a hundred years from now.
Tesla version is really good, too. Probably better vocals and guitar solo, but sometimes the original is the way to go (also, you know, safer for work and all that).

Season 2 of the Cocaine and Rhinestones podcast has been all about the Possum.
You'd have a hard time convincing me there are 5 better country songs than this one:

Re: What are you listening to Today?
One of my daughter's friends is taking up the saxophone for middle school band. Trying to introduce him to the iconic solos to inspire him - whatcha got band people?
Careless Whisper, Never Tear Us Apart, Endless Summer Nights, Caribbean Queen, Who Can It Be Now, Rio. . .
The 80s were all about that Sax.
Baker Street, Songbird, Tequila, Daybreak, Yakety Sax of course.
Not a huge Springsteen guy, so I'm sure there are better examples from his catalogue than I'm Going Down, but that's one of the few songs by the Boss that I love (and I love the fairly-short-on-the-album-version saxophone solo). Not sure an 11 year old is going to want to sit through 10 minutes of Jungleland (I know I don't).

Saw Tesla live once, and was utterly/udderly shocked by how effective the band was at making middle-aged women lose their tops. It was un/canny.

John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band - Tender Years has great sax - once again 80s....

Udderly shocked, huh?
Must be that voice. Homeboy's got some pipes.

Springsteen's sax player was Clarence Clemons. He died in 2011. Probably the best sax player ever. He even steals the show on Springteen's "Santa Claus is Coming to Town". In the 1980's Clemons also did a lot of solo work with people like Jackson Brown, Ringo Starr and later, even with Lady Gaga.

Yeah, RIP to The Big Man.
Good call on Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Thanks for that.
I'll put that on there to replace I'm Going Down (there is a good live version somewhere in this thread with Clarence's nephew getting two solos, but on the album version the sax part is good but pretty short).

I like that one. Whole thing is very Red-Headed Stranger.
Switchfoot also dropped a new album recently. https://www.ccmmagazine.com/reviews/...t-interrobang/
