FYI in case you haven't seen it... Wofford beat NC State earlier today.

Louisiana Tech was trying to do something that had only been done once in the last 55 attempts and that was beat Syracuse in non-conference play on its home court.

I couldn't tell who knocked the ball out of bounds before their last possession.
I thought Hamilton should have helped Kyser by disrupting Christmas on their last possession.
I thought we should have advanced the ball to halfcourt and called time-out on our last possession.
I thought Leo Edwards earned a spot in the rotation today.
The ball was definitely out of bounds off Tech before the last possession...it was reviewed by replay also.
Edwards definitely showed me something today. Tech is going to need that extra inside presence or it is going to get pushed around even in conference play.
Attended a family event but from what I saw the Dawgs played a great game.
I wouldn't say we played a great game. I think our ceiling is much higher than how we played this afternoon. We didn't shoot free throws well. Outside of Appleby and Hamilton, our other guys went 0-8 from 3-point range. We had way too many turnovers. We got dominated on the boards again. Yet we somehow only lost by two points. I think that bodes well for the future. If we put it all together, we can be a great team.
Keep in mind that Syracuse wasn't exactly lighting the world on fire before they played us. They lost to a Michigan team that is not good at all (at this point).
And so did ull and Temple and now Syracuse.. But I think we are getting better on the defensive end. We did not play defense like this vs ull the other night. We were much more active and aggressive today. We still have some upside and room to improve but I didn't really expect this game to be as close as it was. We played a better team game for the most part. I think we need to start a collection for Mcree, chip in a dollar for every time he passes and give it to him at end of the season! Haha. Edwards is improving and has earned some more or for sure. The last few years we have played very good 3 pt defense but teams are lighting us up from beyond arc. I think that is due to so many FR playing or trying to play and adjust to real defense. Think they are showing signs all around. I missed the post game interview, what did White say about the game?
Never underestimate how a team will play after a loss. They were fired up and we took it to them, even with that - on their home court. Tech played well at times, but we should be able to beat that Syracuse team later in the year (if we would have the chance)..... I NEVER like catching a team right after they have had a loss. They were playing for pride.
Our rebounding seemed improved but still has a ways to go. Our freshmen got into the flow of the game more quickly and we played more as a team. There are only 3 games ooc left before conference play starts and we still have a lot of room for improvement. But I don't think Syracuse wants another piece of us...one thing we got in spades is heart! THESE DOGS DON'T QUIT!
It seemed like we got @ 10 dunks in the game as well.
The goofy looking white kid hit a lot of contested shots that he has not made all season, per the espn crew.
There is some upside in this bunch.
The "goofy looking white kid" was the best player on the floor last night and the reason SU won.
By contrast, Speedy had ZERO points.
Boeheim said they played over their heads on offense and were lucky to win.
Exactly, so when you have position on someone bigger than you, you have to block out. If you don't they will do what they did, out jump/reach you. Our 6'4 guards are trying to out jump 6'6-6'10 forwards. It's not going to work. Then we want an over the back call when it isn't over the back. The one they actually called shouldn't have been called either. Alex just got out jumped, but was bailed out.

I thought our rebounding really improved. Guards seemed to block out better. McCree looked more intense too. Out rebounded by ten. There were several possessions where we gave up 3 or more offensive rebounds. Unacceptable but each of those only resulted in 2 points.
We aren't an at large team. Doesn't mean we won't be a tournament team. We still have Speedy, Appleby, Hamilton and Kyser. Still think we will win another conference championship and maybe win conference tourney.
Overall, I was pleased with what I saw and the progression they have made since I last saw them play. It looks like CMW is settling into a rotation. I thought Leo gave quality minutes, but he and a few of the other guys need to be able to finish inside. We missed multiple contested shots around the rim. I like what I am seeing...just need to continue to see more aggression under our goal. Syracuse was getting 4 rebounds several times.
I spoke too soon on Edwards. He played hard and had some key points and plays that kept us in the game. He may have enough weight behind him to become a rebounder for us.
Overall, it was a MUCH better performance than I have seen from them all year. Syracuse was NOT going to lose another game at home. I hate catching teams right after a loss. Anyway, I am seeing a lot of progress and think we are going to be going on a roll around mid-season. I would much rather now be a learning time, than winning every game and not learning. We will be fine and I predict a CUSA championship again! Now, to only get hot (or stay hot) for the tournament!
I agree. I was just pointing that he and the goofy white kid were different type players.
Our whole offense is different when Speedy shoots the three. I've noticed Appleby is taking more of the NBA 3pt shots lately. Those are the ones Speedy has taken opponents by surprise with.
BTW, using adjectives like goofy and white are not PC when using the antonyms to describe a player. ;)
I got to watch the game a second time last night:
Hamilton's defense was very good for most of the game. I have not noticed him to be that good on defense before.
Edwards can rebound in traffic and that's been one of our biggest problems. Others include fighting over the same ball and mis-timing jumps.
Appleby kept us in that game the first half. He was awesome.
We played solid defense for the most part.
I wonder if White would ever consider playing Edwards and Kyser together when we have to go against 2 bigs (UTEP)?
I can remember thinking out of curiosity last year that I wanted to see Masey and Kyser on the floor at the same time.
Offence would be thrown out of sync though. In this scenario, I'm not sure our spacing would allow us to play like that for longer than a few minutes at a time. If I were an opposing coach, that lineup would be easy to defend.
