Re: Tech XXI retires from active service as live mascot
We need an organization to take over total responsibility for providing and caring for our mascot, IMO.
-
Re: Tech XXI retires from active service as live mascot
There used to be a student organization called The Kennel Club who I thought had responsibility. But if you don't provide class a air conditoned dog house and USDA prime beef with a personal trainer you're probably running afoul of the government regulations. I wonder if anyone in PETA actually owns a pet.

I'll do a slow clap if Tech announces we've found a QB. (a live one!)

He's new - I almost replied to him, but I let it go.

I know, but it is the lack of detail I see everyday teaching that just makes me wonder about how well people want to do their jobs now days. Devil is in the details. I was giving him a pass on not replying, but on here not as much. :)

Re: Tech XXI retires from active service as live mascot
We are heading to 14 months without a mascot. I know they have "identified" a new mascot, it hasn't been made official yet. What is the hold up?

Getting close to 15 months without a mascot! I know they tweeted that they "identified" the next bulldog. I see that they don't care much about the mascot program.

Thanks for keeping on top of this. Like so many other things, we've allowed tradition to slip into the mists of time. We graduated when there was a live bulldog. Now there have been at least two classes without it.

A new year and still no live mascot! Great leadership we have.

Techsters arent bulldogs, so they'll be fine.

So, having a losing Tech program is funny to you? What other disappointments at Tech do you find so hilarious?

It took them 1 year, 3 months, 2 weeks, 5 days. Embarrassingly too long.

Not much longer than the age of the dog dude. If they wanted that dog (offspring of XXI) they waited for it.

Do we know for sure if this is truly the offspring of XXI or just a write up lie to cover up the long wait? They haven't been transparent.
-
Re: Tech XXI retires from active service as live mascot
Agreed. Something so easy terribly mishandled. BUT I’m glad we’ve got a live mascot again.
-
Re: Tech XXI retires from active service as live mascot
Or they just decided to keep it quiet until they could announce it.

Or they waited until they could just make one announcement and have him ready as the mascot, instead of saying "Hey we got a puppy but he can't come to the games yet."
Why bother announcing it if he isnt cleared for an appearance. You have the dog now, 5 years or until retirement. I feel the last one was recommended for retirement early, and it just threw a wrench in their plans to have one readily available.

Thank goodness a bunch of Greek students voted to have a live mascot in the first place :icon_roll:

Re: Tech XXI retires from active service as live mascot
Tech made sure XXII was healthy. Clearly he's not a new born. Yes, he was sired by Tech XXI. It took the time it took. And he's a good looking bulldog!
-
Re: Tech XXI retires from active service as live mascot
Why is the breeder being anonymous? Who is the host family?

"We're sorry it's taking so long, we are getting a legacy from XXI."
That's all it takes. Why the silence?

Why do you still care? The dog is public and the dog is healthy. Under normal circumstances you wouldnt get updates about the next dog being bred, and you wouldnt care. It'd just be introduced when the time came.
XXII was probably already being being set up for introduction this year. If he is a 14 month old pup, XXI retired ~15 months ago, the mother was already pregnant with him when he retired.
-
Re: Tech XXI retires from active service as live mascot
Regarding Tech XXII is the son of XXI, it could be as factious as the story of "The Legend of the Bulldog". Our tech folks have not been very honest and open about the situation.
"He was formally introduced at a small gathering at the Marbury Alumni Center." - who were invited to this small gathering? Why only select folks get to attend?
"He will live with a local family with strong ties to Louisiana Tech." - why are we not naming the family who our mascot will be living with?
"Tech XXII was donated by a Louisiana breeder who wishes to remain anonymous." - anonymous? and we believe this dog is the son of XXI? Also, will this breeder donate some of the earnings back to Tech seeing that Tech XXI is the daddy (says the article).
-
Re: Tech XXI retires from active service as live mascot
Also from the previous announcement "Guice said Jim King, Tech's vice president for student advancement, and the student government association actually coordinated the search."
Coordinated the search??? If he was the offspring of XXI, there's wasn't much of a search.

There's just no reason for the lack of transparency. The freaking mascot isn't a secret nuclear code.

Re: Tech XXI retires from active service as live mascot
If they are lying about the dog's heritage (which they have no reason to do), Id gladly accept the truth. The family and breeder isnt an issue, if they want to be anonymous, let em. What "earnings" would the breeder donate back? The articles says that the breeder "donated" the dog, which would mean he/she didnt charge for breeding it.
Ultimately, whining about it here wont get you the answers you seek. You'll have to go ask someone involved about the process. I just dont see the point in complaining if nothing is actually going to be done about it.

Re: Tech XXI retires from active service as live mascot
I just dont see the need in conspiracy theories.
If XXII is indeed the offspring of XXI, that doesnt mean he was automatically considered the replacement. If XXI turned out to have some kind of health complications, they may have explored other options and had XXII undergo a few months of testing/ check-ups before deciding to stick with him. I certainly wouldnt dictate that we MUST pick the previous dog's offspring, but we should consider it an option.

Re: Tech XXI retires from active service as live mascot
I was going to say I hope everyone can sleep at night now that we have a live mascot again, but it looks like people are still going to be losing sleep.

Re: Tech XXI retires from active service as live mascot
By golly, qnq and blue want to see the dogs fornicating before they will buy this load of BS!!! By golly and heck!!!!!!
-
Re: Tech XXI retires from active service as live mascot
I'm really happy we finally have a live mascot again, but I'm still amazed how some refuse to acknowledge how poorly Tech handled this whole situation. As usual, Tech gave us more questions than answers.
-
Re: Tech XXI retires from active service as live mascot
Good looking dog. Probably inaccurate article. Just poor execution on this one. Indicative that there isn't a "program". Somebody either inside the university or outside needs to step up and own it.

Re: Tech XXI retires from active service as live mascot
Need to start a tally -
Tech XXII is
1-0 in basketball
0-0 in wbb
0-0 in baseball
0-0 in softball
0-0 in football

Is this with him present or just in his tenure?

As of his announcement Saturday nite
Technically I guess the Techsters are 0-1 since their game was on going when he was introduced to the public...

Re: Tech XXI retires from active service as live mascot
Just saw someone mentioned the "puppy dog" logo on the COES thread. Whatever happened to the old strutting bulldog with the T sweater and cap or beanie? The new one does look different than Georgia's or Fresneck, but it's still lame.

I say bring that one back for retro shirts or something. I'd 1000% rather the swaggering dawg on our mbb uniforms for sure.

I like the new(ish) dog logo almost as much as I disdain the new(ish) La-State-T-ech logo.

I believe the point has been made that the new(ish) dog logo is more like the American Bulldog than the English Bulldog. Ok, it's not so lame. Just don't put in on our helmets.
-
Re: Tech XXI retires from active service as live mascot
I prefer the single color version of the logo over the one that is white with blue and red outline/details.

Yeah, State-T only for helmets.
