This may be the year when we have both our D and O really bad at the same time.
That's at least 3 passes that J'Mar has thrown into the ground tonight.
Need 5, throw it 40.
Running trick plays up 31-0 shows exactly Tom Herman's character.
So let me take a quick shot at the post game excuses.
Texas is one of the best teams in the country - best QB he’s ever seen. Which is code for - did y’all really expect us to compete.? Check pls.
Fast forward next week LSU who will finish 9-3 & not make the BCS playoffs will beat Tx by 3 touchdowns.
I feel sorry for those people that put time and money into Tech sporting programs.
Unless you have both time and money to burn - it is just insane to invest neither of them into Tech sports at the moment.
However he set it up with the team Holtz let them known we weren’t going to compete and it didn’t matter. When you’re programmed to lose, you will.
In the week coming up, when is there an opportunity to publicly question Holtz? Isn't there a call in radio show? What about Teddy's "Talking Tech" show?
Also - there won’t be basketball or baseball to look forward to either.
The reality is there are less and less who are doing so. I don’t think The Happening sold out this year which would be a first.
The real problem for Tech athletics is about to set in. Apathy. We just don’t care anymore. Win or Lose. It’s not important.
My family went from regular six season tickets to a mini plan...3 games...that we may or may not make depending on what else is going on that day. We can find better ways to spend our Saturdays.
I know I’m not the only one, but nobody in the administration seems to care.
Im freaking tired of putting my money into this program
J'Mar still sucks...Skippy has done nothing to move this program forward and all of you sunshine pumpers can go blow it out of your a$$
You joke, but with Guice at the helm, it's likely.
It's amazing, though not surprising, it's still relevant.
Never.
So? We are a practice squad. Practice what you need.
Didn't you know, it's not about the end, it's about the journey!
I think they screen that. If they don't, they will.
TD Bulldawgs!!!!!!
OMG we scored. Holtz will consider that a win, we didn’t quit... completely
Hell our kicker even made the extra point .... we rollin now:rolleyes4:
Skippy,,,this is one of the most disgracing displays of football than I've ever seen in a D1 program
I'm watching this with my extended family.
I'd say this is the most embarrassed I've been because of Tech, but that's definitely not true.
Easily Top 10 though.
Not as bad as MSU or WKU last year.
Or blowing the big lead against So Miss a couple of years ago...
We just ran our first blitz all night on the UT QB......and IT WORKED!!! Not sure why we waited until now. I guess we were afraid to blitz the starter, Erhlinger.
OK TD but J'Mar ain't it. I've had enough
GREAT catch by Herbert in the end zone. 38-14 now. Herbert has had a good showing tonight. I'm not sure we're going up against UT's #1 defenders now though. But still a great catch.
Hebert, Graham and Stanley have been bright spots when given the opportunity to shine.
This was a very poor effort. I don't have any further comments. Have a good Labor Day everyone.
Not saying we would have won, but this game should have been a lot closer than the score say.
Who's #24 for Tech who just dropped Weston Elliott's 15-20-yd pass over the middle??
Texas with another off of Elliot’s INT.
Skip...Dr Guice...This is the last year that I contribitute to this mediocre ass program. What an embarrassment. Im not going to give anymore money to this program PERIOD.
We have no run game with that stupid delayed handoff. We won’t ever be able to move the chains past the 20 until we have a multi dimensional offense. As long as we can spread the field, we can move it, but as soon as the field of play gets compressed, we stall. I’m not a brilliant football mind and even I can see that. We are gonna have to find a way to run it effectively.
Let this soak in. We had more 1st downs. Tx only out gained us by 40 yds but outscored us by 31 pts
Holtz critiques the game like he’s an analyst instead of the head coach... like he’s not responsible for changing things in the course of the game to alter the outcome, unbelievable. He’s such a fraud. But hey we ‘competed’. That right, he said it several times.
Holtz has no intention of winning these games.
I'm surprised he said we competed, since we most certainly did NOT compete.
It is evident that every problem they swore would be fixed this season is alive in full force.
No one cares at all.
I will not be giving another penny to Tech Athletics until this problem (Holtz) is fixed.
Some might be satisfied being a Sunbelt/FCS caliber team but I am not.
Had one quality opponent on the schedule, and now that that is behind us, we have a couple of "not terrible" opponents, and a bunch of dregs. 11 games vs. a very weak slate. Therefore, I am sticking with my 7-5 prediction...then 8-5 with a 6th straight bowl win, baby!
Holtz is not the issue.
The issue is our president who lets Tmac runs all of our programs into the ground.
Firing Holts won’t change the outcome of our athletics programs.
We need to get rid of Tmac first since we won’t be able to get a new president anytime soon.
This was an abysmal performance. J'Mar sucks...Holtz sucks...defense sucks...the entire offensive scheme sucked...WTF
I hope this is not what I have to look forward too for the rest of this season!
"One game does not a season make" (repeat as necessary until you believe it). I think we have a chance to win more games than we lose the rest of the way. There were several things that didn't sit well with me about the game, but the #1 thing I detest is how J'Mar makes it appear every incomplete pass is the fault of the receiver. And maybe it is. I don't know, but it would tick me off if I was a receiver to have the QB make hand gestures and facial expressions which make it appear the incompletion was all my fault. And why Tech continues to run the delayed handoff continues to boggle my mind. Please tear that page out of the playbook.
1. After 4 years and some quality WR’s the one common denominator is Smith. Nothing ever seems his fault and I bet a few of them along the have said something to him, but he is the coaches rockstar. If the coach allows the behavior it wasn’t going to change and now it’s way to late.
2. We continue to run the delayed hand off and get our RB’s an accumulation of unnecessary hits, simply because our coach wants to run the play and refuses to admit he is wrong..... wait a minute... a coach that refuses to admit he is part of the problem and make adjustments, just spent 4 years with a QB that does the same thing.
They are just one free handy under the blanket, at the team picnic from being couple of the decade.
3 years of our QB refusing to pull the ball out of the RB's arms. Our RBs and OLine get the blame for our QB not being able to make reads.
The morning after makes it abundantly clear, the only games Tech will win will be against teams with lesser talent and coaching not good enough to make up for it. As hard as it is to believe there are coaches less capable than Holtz. Any team with similar talent and a good coach will beat Tech. There’s no part of the current Tech team that is even half way competitive. That includes our so called highly touted defensive secondary. As skilled as they be they’re made inept by a built in defeatist defensive system and strategy. As things stand now this season has the potential to be a disastrous implosion. It’s going to be very telling measuring ULM’ 31-9 win over Grambling against what Tech does.
My quick thoughts:
Last night was embarrassing! That is the key takeaway.
We have no Red zone offense
Plays were non creative - especially in the red zone
Running backs were unable to do much of anything - not sure if Texas defense is THAT good.... I can remember one time there was a hole for Dancy. That is just my memory.
On the good side - J'Mar was better than I remembered him being last year.
Defense will hold up better against the rest of our competition.
It was a horrible experience for me personally, since I have a ton of UT friends. EMBARRASSING!
I think the delayed handoff causes our offensive line to not fire off the ball and create a hold. If you think the runner won’t be taking the handoff for a beat and a half, do you really engage properly?
Agree! It's called "zone blocking". Hard to fire off in zone blocking.
Also, it's unbelievably simply to defend against when you know 1) Tech doesn't have another running play 2) the QB will never keep the ball.
Seems to me that Tech has run off any other coach that tried to install a option offense, but, that is exactly what the delayed hand off is, the QB reading whether to keep the ball or let the RB keep it, hence the delay.
This play, by itself, is a HUGE slap in the face to all of Tech's past glorious offensive history.
You’re exactly right, first off it’s a lazy approach to a forceful running game. Second, it’s in the hands of a ‘risk no injury coached QB’. J’Mar is not going to pull the ball and run except about every 3rd game. I’m not even sure if this play has a pass option because I don’t recall seeing it. Without a tightend to brush block and release behind the linebackers, I doubt it. J’Mar isn’t talented enough to read and throw a complicated ball handling, defense reading quick pass place down field.
BTW, we completed a forward pass for a loss on 4th and 1. That's almost impossible.
We just put 14 pts on the number 10 team in the nation and held them to 42. From what I saw J'mar didn't have a lot of time and the RB's had no holes. As I thought years ago after we had lost to Tenn and Miami, Fresno (no. 17) wasn't in their league. Neither were we, but we beat Fresno. Texas was a given loss.
Highlights from Stadium. Our two TDs were well throw; the fade to Malik Stanley and the other to Hebert.

I’m of the opinion that both of J’Mar’s TD passes were poorly thrown. The defense just didn’t see the ball in time to prevent the catch. Both balls were under thrown.
See. That’s just it.
“A given loss.”
We don’t even try to compete anymore. It’s a given loss. Why bother showing up? Forfeit the game and avoid injuries. You want to know why many of us don’t care anymore? It’s because we have seen competitive Tech teams and we know Skippy doesn’t care. So we take our “given loss” and start the regular season.
I’m looking forward to our 7-5 and a bowl victory! Can’t wait to see which bowl we pick.
I think we were trying to compete just as hard as we did in any "body bag" games of the last twenty years - Miami, Tennessee, A&M (at College Station), Nebraska, Oklahoma, Florida State, etc. So yes we have no better head coach or AD or even Pres. Do you think we have better talent?
Maybe you can come up with 50 or 60 million to buy us a coach and team.
Ah yes, the old budget excuse. Does Ga State have $50-60 million to beat Tennessee?
Texas outgained us by what, 40 yards? We had more first downs. But we had turnovers, and they put the ball in the end zone. Bad throws can be the QB or bad coaching and for us it is both. Fumbles are on the coaches cause a kid that fumbled last year is still fumbling this year. You have to design plays that get past the sticks and get to pay dirt. We don’t have either in our play book. We have played much more respectable games against other P5’s with equal or less talent. If this is the best we have, then we have to look to a slew of grad transfers next year or we are toast. This year may already be circling the drain.
We’ve had a red zone problem for 3 years now. It doesn’t matter who we play against. We couldn’t score last year against UTEP at home, the worst team in the nation. Maybe one of the worst football teams in the last 20 years. So far, the pattern is continuing just like the last 3 years. Unless we make some scheme changes, 7 is the ceiling with 6 wins likely, which is quite depressing.
First time in UT stadium since 1969 (UT 69-TCU 7) last night. I hoped I was going to see something different from prior years. Nope. Nada. Nothing. Same stuff we've seen since J'mar took over. I've quit going to home games. Only went to the UT game because I grew up in Austin and my kids gave me tickets for my b'day...and they went too. Sat next to a '71-'74 Tech player who could do nothing but shake his head. We left at halftime. Saw the handwriting on the wall and wanted to get ahead of the traffic. I never used to be like that. But I don't care anymore. Coaches wives were sitting close to me. Unlike years when I knew the coaches and their wives, and those wives were pumped and into the game, these ladies seemed bored and uninterested. Makes you wonder if that's the demeanor of the coaching staff too. I could go on and on, but the rest of you are much more articulate. I'm just done with this. May have to go root for ULM...at least they sell beer at the game and they seem to have a coach that has fire in his belly.
Gonna be positive...Hebert and Stanley were special And the negative...Special teams suck. Positive...we will be OK with the remainder of our extremely soft schedule., and no injuries! Negative...too many blown coverages and kids yelling at each other. Hopefully it's a teaching moment.
How 'bout that goofy looking hat our HC wore? He loves to rep our school doesn't he? Watching the game on a 60" TV and can't read what the postage stamp on his cap says.
Too hot at the stadium in Austin and too much walking to get there. I don't intend to ever go back to that stadium!!! The main thing I looked for at the game was: will the Dawgs give up if they get behind in the score???? THEY DID NOT!!! Our field goal kicker needs A LOT OF PRACTICE!! Big Disappointment!!! More practice won"t help J'Mar!! Start Elliot Westin for the Grambling game!!
https://youtu.be/1T3oOa2HV-M Full game.
Watching the "come on man", hands in the air as if "what's wrong with you" gestures throughout the game by J'Mar I think this has to foster a toxic environment on our offense. He missed CJ Powell wide open in the end zone and then makes a curving motion with his arm as if CJ was running the route wrong. (59:00 minute mark) A QB like Tua or others would be pointing to themselves as to say "that's on me". This attitude answers why as a Senior QB1, he is not voted by his teammates as a captain. This attitude should have been "adjusted" by the HC long ago.
Second, is Skip actually calling the plays? Why do we even have an OC?
His attitude became a problem after the Arkansas game in which he proved that he could run the same 6 plays over and over with success against a pretty mediocre team. Only way to fix that would have been to bench him when he sucked in his first start as a sophomore.
Start the guy that went 1 of 3 with an INT?
Ha! We do this every year. We learned almost nothing Saturday except that we won’t be undefeated.
Anybody that knows anything about football knew our D would be way down. We still don’t seem to have a feature back and we’re still not helping the run game with our play calling.
I’ll give it a few more weeks before I write the obit on this year’s dawgs.
We had an opportunity to create some excitement about our program the 1st game of the year... we sucked it up and were never in the ballgame. Our running game is terrible ......if you can’t run the ball effectively it’s going to be tough offensively. We couldn’t stop UT’a run game.
We will finish with 7 wins and qualify for another bowl game. Attendance will suck all year.... Admin and others will continue to make excuses. The leaders of La Tech have no vision and no interest in improving athletics at La Tech. We should just go D3 and put all money towards academics!
Smith looked pretty good at times. We did convert two drives into TDs after entering the Red Zone, the second one only after the pick 6 was nullified by a "roughing" the QB call. Griffin Hebert looks very promising, and together with Hardy, offers a pretty good one-two punch at WR.
Mostly, though, as Hogdawg has pointed out, we have a good "between the 20's" offense that sputters in the Red Zone. Lot of that is due to 1) not having a big back who can dig out those tough yards, and 2) not having a QB who is a true running threat. We make things too easy for defenses who can use the end line of the EZ as a 12th defender, i.e. can't get beat deep so overplay WRs underneath. Your QB HAS to represent a real threat such that defenses have to account for him. In our case opposing defenses mostly ignore Smith and concentrate on tightening down on the short passing attack.
It would also help to have a kicker who can actually kick.
Does Carly Lloyd have any eligibility left?
anyone breaking almost any football offensive record now days especially compared to a 50 years ago measurement means nothing.
