Not sure he is/was supposed to say that...
He also confirmed that Lincoln Builders is the contractor for all three complexes.

It's public record if the new construction was let for bids. Looks like demolition can be done without going through a bid process. That may be what our AD was saying when he said what he said about Lincoln builders being the contractor.

I was told by a senior Tech official yesterday that construction starts on the new baseball stadium next week, and it starts on the softball stadium next month. Tech officials are pushing very hard to get the new stadium completed in time for a series matchup against Arkansas, who will be coming to Ruston, but not at the very beginning of the season. So while they don't expect to be ready for opening day in 2021, they do expect to be ready when the Razorbacks hit Ruston a few weeks later. (Sorry, no I didn't ask for specific dates.)
Anyway, it should be exciting times next year for baseball.
Not true. We're actually very lucky. Talk about turning whiskey into fine wine..... Last year's tornado is going to end up being a real boon for LA Tech athletics facilities. Between the grant money coming in from the Feds, the state monies, and yes, other monies from friends of the school, I was told --by someone that really knows-- that Tech is going to be able to build (or in our case, rebuild) new athletic facilities for baseball, softball and soccer, much better and much nicer than we could have ever afforded to do on our own. Furthermore, it's going to almost all be paid for using very little to no debt. It's an incredible outcome for Louisiana Tech Athletics.
So everybody can quit your bitchin! :)
I wish they would put a live feed of the baseball construction. On top of one of the student apartment building would be a great place. Once construction starts I will starting posting pictures again.
It's great news that construction is about to start. Glad we were able to get the money issues dealt with and we're moving forward! Maybe there will be a ground breaking ceremony and we'll get some details on the particulars of the new ballpark and what it will look like. The concept renderings were pretty intriguing.
The last non-conference weekend is the 4th weekend of the season (2nd weekend in March) unless a conference series is switched.
Some pics of baseball. Also construction fencing up for softball and soccer.

That's some nice earth moving equipment. I also like the office trailer, nice place for the foreman to enjoy a cup of coffee or take a quick nap.

Watched the new Tech Talk with Tommy McClelland.
I assume its a newer rendering of the stadium. Not many design changes except for some cosmetics:
- Change of facade on columns and outer support structures with brick (I like the columns, looks like our pillars around campus)
- Entrance pathway is no longer brick pathway (better contrast with the brick on the stadium)
- Design change to the roof tops of the outer structures
- Newer rendering doesn't have a fence in the entry, but I image we will have one.

The exterior has a few material elements of the DAC. Similar gray panels.

I enjoyed that Tech Talk session. And I especially enjoyed the video clips of some of those exciting finishes in the old Love Shack. Good stuff.
I think it was Dawg80 who remarked a few weeks ago that our timing for the baseball stadium rebuild couldn't have come at a better time for our program. The fact that baseball won't be played in 2020 makes it a great time for a facility rebuild.
I've worked a LOT of construction jobs over the years. "social distancing" is not possible unless you are an equipment operator, supervisor, or state employee.;)
I've noticed several state jobs here in Ouachita Parish are shut down. I assumed they would shut down our stuff as well.
They updated the renderings. More brick look of our facilities.

The only thing I see they really value engineered was the Women's Complex. What used to be a enclosed building on the backside is now a covered patio.
Would like to see a few more trees.
The exterior of my home is being remodeled with addition, as well. They have continued to work, but bring only 3 at a time. They are keeping their social distance while working, as each is assigned to different areas. One exception is a husband and wife that are working together shetrocking and painting the interior of the addition. Seems smart to me. They stay working and getting paid, plus they are sticking with social distancing.
I have a husband-wife team of contractors too. They are too slow for me. I'll swing by the property and maybe one of them is there...where's ____ I ask. Oh, he/she had to go check on so-n-so, or if they are both there I find them taking two-hour lunches, music on...like they're having a picnic or something. I've used them before, actually have since 2013 on many of my properties, but before his brother would also be part of the team, now he's retired for good.
There is a HUGE need for contractors who can do skilled labor. Carpenters, plumbers, electricians, general contractors, etc...and for heavier work like tree cutting, dirt/gravel contractors, with a dozer, and others. I know I can/will keep several such folks working around here!
You sound a little dramatic. Here's the latest stats according to the Fake News Network a/k/a CNN:
https://www.cnn.com/interactive/2020...aps-and-cases/
According to that link, Louisiana has 2,746 cases of Corona Virus as of now, and has had 119 deaths. And not everyone gets hospitalized. According to the CDC site below, through March 16th, only 12% of Americans with diagnosed Coronavirus were hospitalized. That's something the media and our "medical professionals" won't tell ya. Just like victims of the flu, thankfully, not everyone needs or requires hospitalization.
https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6912e2.htm
I’m not going to explain exponential growth to you because I’ve been lurking long enough to know you’re smarter than that. 773 currently hospitalized with 270 of those on ventilators in the state and the majority of those are in Orleans and Jefferson. That number will grow at noon. Also, that’s 28% of diagnosed patients ending up in the hospital in the state of Louisiana (2,746). There’s a reason they’re setting up the convention center to house patients and it’s not to own conservatives. My only point is it’s tiring to politicize every damn thing. This is a lot more important than the progress on our baseball stadium regardless of how you feel about my emotional response.
Bottom line, I own an essential business with two locations. One employee currently in the hospital. This doesn’t feel real to people until someone you know has it. It’s real, it’s here and we should do our part to protect the vulnerable.
This thread should remain about future athletic construction. Let's keep political stuff of it before someone shows up with links from google in various, gigantic fonts and colors showing the 87th new deep state plot of this year has been uncovered.
Those links will be acceptable though, if they are attributed to....
.......the deep state McClelland, the Southland Conference and Pepsi have created to bring down the fall of LaTech and its facilities!!!
Did Pepsi help create the tornado destruction? How many Pepsi bottles and trucks did you see destroyed by the tornadoes? Where has Pepsi been since the tornado? We never had a tornado during Coke's reign. Why isn't Pepsi answering any questions???
Tommy comes has background from two different Southland schools. Tech left the Southland many years ago to reach higher peaks. Are they jealous of Tech's success? Did Southland do backroom deals to put a henchman in our program to sabotage it???
What was the last game played before the tornado? ...... At Tommy's old stomping grounds and Southland flagship program, McNeese state!!!
Where did we play less than a week after? ........At Tommy's Southland Alma Mater and flagship program, NSU!!! ....Quite the coincidence, isn't it? Almost too perfect!!!
Were they rubbing it in our faces??? Why hasn't Tommy publicly commented about Southland involvement?? Why hasn't McCelland ruled out these possibilities and openly started an investigation??? Why has the Southland Conference been so quiet???
DID PEPSI FUND THIS SABOTAGE WITH THE OFFSHORE BLUE BALL ACCOUNTS AND RESERVES???
Why do Pepsi and the Southland conference hate the ELITE culture we have and why do they want to DESTROY it????
All questions to make you think.
Welcome to you LyleK!
No harm, no foul. Welcome to BB&B, Lyle. I've tried to stick strictly with the verifiable statistics (including source links) anytime I discuss the affects of COVID-19 here on BB&B. According to the story below, "as of Wednesday, Louisiana has a total bed capacity of 22,142, but less than 10,000 of those beds were available. Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, and Plaquemines parishes, which account for the majority of COVID-19 cases in the state, had only 1,375 beds still available Wednesday".
https://www.wwltv.com/article/news/h...6-986f323464e2
For an MSA of approximately 1.5M people, having a total of only 4,327 hospital beds does seem absurdly low. And they say 35% of those --roughly 1,500 beds-- are available. Anyway, that's what they say in this story.
https://www.fox8live.com/2020/03/20/zurik-new-orleans-area-has-hospital-beds-available-cases-continue-soar/
Most of them, at least out to 1st and 3rd bases.
Looked at that rendering again. Why are the bleachers so shallow...it's like no more than 12 rows or so. Stack 'em behind homeplate as much as possible.
Look, studying the drawings again, this sorry-excuse of a design cannot be saved. Tear it up and start over.
I guess you are not a fan of almost all of the college baseball stadiums.
A little bit of green for you Dawgonit. A lot went into that post and I appreciate it.
Looking forward to visiting the new field, hopefully next summer.
Dawgonit is the man! Always logical, super nice and caring guy. Keeps it real without too much bias. Plus tyler makes himself an easy target for jabs. We all love him as the crazy uncle in the Tech family, though.
I'm disappointed in the blue -
Should of been green....
Tech missed a great opportunity to build a baseball facility/stadium that would be the envy of the college baseball world. Instead, they just accepted a lame, cookie-cutter design...but what else can you expect from a loser like a Southland Conference fool.
Seats and wall pads are probably the last thing to go in, hope they can order green ones.
It will make it more like the original Love Shack if they go with green!
It would look real good with green seats/pads (see Oregon)

Actually, all I would care about is they have lighting equal to a minor league park, but . . . those wanting good lighting are always the first one value engineered out of an equation (Remember those LCD lights in the TAC?).
You get the point.

These rendering show no more than 1,000 seats which is TOTALLY unacceptable lending us to believe there isnt much growth expected in our baseball program. That number is about what we need at this time but letting this opportunity pass is just unexplainable. I know we can talk about standing room, berm, etc and publish any seating capacity we want but there will still be only around 1,000 seats and thats what counts. Very disappointing. Maybe thats all we can afford, who knows.
I would say from a rough count (yes I tried counting) of the rendering, the grandstand holds about 1325, total suite chairbacks 40. The rest I assume they are counting about 1,100 in berm seating including the grandstand berm and outfield.
I think they could expand in the future by adding more permanent seating, but not by thousands. The existing location is landlocked and small.
How they word it on latechsports.com:
"Seating: all chair-back seats with berm seating; partially covered; capacity of approximately 2,500"

Oh, don't be dissing on pine trees! They are the backbone of an important industry in our region. Besides, have to have some pine trees around in case Hawaii ever returns to Ruston for a game. And, good landscaping can include pine trees as a backdrop against which other species can be planted. What screams "this is the South!" better than Dogwoods under pine trees!? (and throw in some azaleas too)
Is anything noticeable going on at the ballpark construction-wise?
