Re: Bulldogs Travel South for Showdown with Jaguars - latechsports.com
First time watching Tech this year. Was expecting a Sonny Dykes fast paced passing game. Only to see a complete comedy of dunces. This is a joke. Nothing about this offense looked like it worked. I have never seen worse QB play in my life. They can’t beat Jax St with this team

Classic strategy of letting them wear themselves out beating us.
Anyone planning on listening to the call-in show? I won't be able to but I hope its on fire.

This is a program that is going in the wrong direction and this University and Admin needs to make a decision on what it's priorities are in terms of its athletics. It's the simple things like...I'm an LTAC contributor but I haven't received my home game parking passes yet.

I'm wasn't happy watching the game, but I haven't written off the season --- yet!!!
My fear is the team will adopt a "we can't" attitude. As long as there is a positive "can do" culture, there is hope.
On more than one occasion, I was sure I was seeing the reincarnation of Westin Elliott (aka turnover machine).
-
Re: Bulldogs Travel South for Showdown with Jaguars - latechsports.com
Gotta have a decent QB. The interception and fumble to begin the 2nd half says it all. That completely sucked the wind out of the team.
As many mistakes as we made in the first half we were still in the game at halftime.

Re: Bulldogs Travel South for Showdown with Jaguars - latechsports.com
We have enough data now so I think we can conclude that our team is really bad. One of the worst I’ve seen during my tenure. Crumble gets a pass this year but we better see some improvement next year! Whatever that was last night, that was embarrassing, yikes!
good timing on the off week. See you guys in two weeks

Why should Crumbie (Crumble! I like that! good job with the nickname, I'm jealous and am gonna steal it) get a pass? He has shown ZERO, NADA, ZILCH ability to coach a little girls' hopscotch team, let alone a Division I football team. I was gonna make a comment about maybe he can write some more letters, but that would be in poor taste given that situation.
Seriously, Coach Cumble has shown me NOTHING! This is the worst coached Tech team I have seen in a long time, and maybe ever. Some old timer might invoke Larry Beightol's name, but that Tech team would CRUSH this one. I guess we'll "beat" FIU, perhaps, but that'll be it. We are looking at a 2-10 record and Crumble should NOT survive a result like that. He is no coach and needs to be gone sooner, rather than later.

Re: Bulldogs Travel South for Showdown with Jaguars - latechsports.com
To my knowledge, MTSU doesn’t have a peer school 30 miles down the road in a conference almost unanimously viewed as superior to our own and with a charismatic celebrity coach. Tech has benefited over ULM from being in the perceived superior conference for a couple decades now. I fear that benefit is now gone. Being on a more even playing field with ULM hurts.

Thank you for nothing Guice while you slept through the years when it was important to make good of Tech’s successes. Now the toilet bowl deep dive is underway and we’re all going to have to pinch or noses and hold our breath to see if we can get through it. Leadership matters.

Re: Bulldogs Travel South for Showdown with Jaguars - latechsports.com
I’d love to be wrong, but I fear that Tech football’s best days are in the past. We squandered the opportunity when we had it to grow the brand and fan base, and the hiring of The Boy Wonder killed any momentum that we had.

This LA Tech team can't seem to start a game (1st Qtr) or a 2nd Half (3rd Qtr) without some kind of major disaster. Then, after giving up two TD's (or whatever) early, they seem to settle in and play better. But at that point, it's too late. They've already dug themselves a major hole.

Re: Bulldogs Travel South for Showdown with Jaguars - latechsports.com
My thoughts on this game: The Dawgs shot themselves in the foot so many times they had no toes by the end of the game!! That, and POOR ASS TACKLING cost them the game!!! It appears that Tyler Grubbs is the only player on defense that knows how to tackle! Just say'n.

With all due respect, you need a lesson in perspective. Calling for a coaches head after four games is a bit ridiculous. Of course you will disagree because you are the smartest person to ever exist.. but I’m going to go ahead and disagree with you in advance.

Re: Bulldogs Travel South for Showdown with Jaguars - latechsports.com
I think we need to pump the brakes about the sky falling here. Look at the first year for coaches. It usually doesn't go well. I would wait until next year to make a judgment, or at least see if there is improvement throughout the year.

Be careful when you argue with Dawg80. If you push him hard enough, he will accuse you of being affiliated with Hitler in some way. He has used this in the past when Coach Kim Mulkey was the subject of discussion. Also, Dawg80 is a charter member of the mutual admiration society that permeates this board. There are about 6 charter members and they all know who they are. All the charter members were calling for Skip Holtz"s resignation three or four games into his first season.

You wanted a new coach and can’t even make it halfway through the first year. Call for his head next year if we can’t win an FBS game. Its not like we had a good team last year to build off of.

Re: Bulldogs Travel South for Showdown with Jaguars - latechsports.com
Whenever the last man in charge leaves the program without a single QB, it would be hard for anyone to be successful the following year. Pull the shirt off the Freshman and see what he can do. At this point there's no downside in it.

As usual you are wrong again. At least you remain consistent.
BTW, those calling for Holtz's head that first year were right! No conference championships, no national ranking, no regular season P5 wins. Wish I had been among that enlightened group, but it was not until later, like his third season, that I started saying Skippy doesn't have what it takes. Specifically, while acknowledging his "some success" I posed the question "Is there nothing more?" Turns out, nope, there was never anything more.
Crawl back under your rock...

Re: Bulldogs Travel South for Showdown with Jaguars - latechsports.com
I don’t know the particular players that are getting these dead ball penalties. Are they Cumbie’s new guys or holdovers? Not that it matters really. If a kid is a problem he should be cut. Cumbie did let a couple walk away who had issues.

By process of elimination I would bet it is Assistant Head Coach & Special Teams Coordinator Dan Sharp. He spent most of his career at TCU (21 years with Gary Patterson). I think the rest of our coaches are either from much smaller schools or are in positions of much greater responsibility than they had before. They should all be thrilled to be here. A stark difference from the years of Skips retreads. Of course, Sharp should be happy to have a job since Gary Patterson does not anymore.

If the back story on this is accurate I hope he’s been losing sleep and working overtime over how poorly his group performed. There’s nothing quite like overloading your smart ass with a big mouth. Come on Cumbie, right this ship, sail us off the rocks. Oh and regardless of any superstitions let’s change the mojo of this team and get back to our historical winning red helmets.

The talent can't be helped.
All the more so, the guys on the field are not talented enough to keep starting with the constant issues of discipline. These are things that can be fixed in practice or ride the pine.

Re: Bulldogs Travel South for Showdown with Jaguars - latechsports.com
The two biggest question marks going in were QB and OLine.
OLine is better than expected IMO.
QB is scary bad.
Special teams are no better or worse than we've had over the past 13 years.
I'm okay with RB, but that's not our game under Cumbie and we knew that.
DBs will continue to come and go. It's a crap shoot not a talent grab with DBs.
Our receivers are decent to good, but it does not matter when we don't have a QB.

I agree with all that. I would add that RB will only be effective in this offense when the pass game is clicking. I think Crosby is really good. He’ll shine once we have a QB.

Agreed.
However, Cumbie knew we needed a QB THIS YEAR, and he brought into two chumps that are backups at best.
Downing should never see the field again, much less been named the starting QB before the season began. He is literally Ensminger back again. Scared of the field.
McNeil stares down primary receivers and throws. Sometimes its good, a lot of times it's bad.
What should concern everyone here is that CUMBIE is supposed to be a QB Guru. This is the talent he brought in? Makes me wonder about the coach.
The only QB we have right now is a True Freshman that the previous coach recruited. I have given Holtz crap for years, but we need to also hold Cumbie responsible for the lack of a clear QB1 on this team. It is his team and right now its looking bad.

Not stirring the pot here (well, kind of :D), just really interested in what either of you have seen, or see, that makes you think Coach Crumble can coach. I have not seen a thing. Maybe I've just missed something and would like to be clued in. I admit I could be wrong, or at least not seeing something you two are privy to.

Re: Bulldogs Travel South for Showdown with Jaguars - latechsports.com
I think the whole Tech team is essentially in a state of being completely shell shocked. From the performances on the field it’s hard to imagine that any part of the team can have any belief in another part doing their part. It’s all a big discombobulated mess. It makes me wonder if any of the players or coaches have any confidence in anyone having the skills, experience and competence to fix it all. It’s a good thing Cumbie has 2 weeks to try to get the fundamentals into alignment. I can’t even say “back” into alignment because they never were to begin with. So far this season except for the SFA game we’ve been playing like a blind folded, one legged man in a butt kicking contest. I can’t even begin to explain how different our team is from that game to all the others. It’s almost like we intentionally decided not to play to our strengths. I truly do hope the coaches… all of them can pull together to figure things out because I want this team and program to be successful. Right now it sure feels like we’re suffering the same implosion that Holtz let befall South Florida when he lazily allowed their program to fall into ruin. I probably don’t even need to say it but I will, the one person who probably couldn’t care less is Guice. He’s undoubtedly oblivious to this whole disaster that’s he’s mishandled from day one of his tenure as an absent sportsminded president.

No QB on the roster was here last year. Even if he was the greatest QB coach of all times, he won’t produce a Tom Brady in 4 games. Time will tell if he was the right hire or not, but with the total dumpster fire that he inherited, consistent winning will take at least a couple years.

I'm okay with RB, but that's not our game under Cumbie and we knew that.
DBs will continue to come and go. It's a crap shoot not a talent grab with DBs.
Our receivers are decent to good, but it does not matter when we don't have a QB.
Great points. I still say that this is the least talented stable of RBs overall that I’ve seen since I started following Tech football.

I AGREE!! The Freshman QB looked good in the few times he has been in the game!!
