I agree and I'm almost of the opinion that the under funding of the admissions department is on purpose to control student growth; you don't want what happened in the 60-70's an explosion and shoddy slap dash infrastructure to try and keep up.
Kinda sucks when you suddenly need a job in Ruston.....
Totally agree on the infrastructure, but I don't wouldn't want to try to pass a bunch of student fees to pay for better/renovated infrastructure. We're getting to the chicken/egg debate, but it's a good problem to have.
Re: Admissions Department
Maybe things have changed since I was choosing a school way back in '04, but Tech wasn't even on my radar until my dad dragged me up to Ruston for visit. Other than a few letters in the mail, there was no Tech presence in Lake Charles that I can remember and I went to Barbe, the biggest school in town. Out of a graduating class of 550, there were only about 10 of us that went to Tech and I don't know anyone from St. Louis Catholic that went. When my sister was looking around there was a Tech recruiter, but that was 6 years later. How many south Louisiana students has Tech missed out on over the years? Showings from Lafayette have also been historically weak. It's already hard to recruit against hometown schools (UL and McNeese) and LSU, but with little to no presence down south, what do you expect?

I thought UL was in Monroe?
Re: Admissions Department
Knew it was going to happen, wrote it anyway. Come at me, bro.

Same here. Didn't know Tech even existed.
I thought the only aviation program in the state was northwestern. Very nearly went there until I heard about Tech through a friend of my mom. 4.0 +30 on ACT coming out of a large high school and not even a mailer from Tech.
Got lucky, frankly.

This is my wife's new College board...
Attachment 9861
She had to beg Tech for that sad little pendant, all the other schools send her the posters every year in the mail without asking, the pendants they drop off when recruiters come by if she has an old one... *sigh* *smh*
Re: Admissions Department
Louisiana Tech - Kings of Untapped Resources. You have a problem with having too many resources? We have the answer to avoid them!

Dude!! Buy one for her at the UNLV game or call the bookstore today and order one. Or are you part of the 47% that just wants something for free?
I hear ya!

O don't worry I will buy her one eventually, just usually busy tailgating during home games; it's not wanting something for free, it's wanting your admissions/recruiting department to do there job and promote Tech.
Their are 395 Private & Public High Schools in Louisiana, lets be very conservative and say a pennant lasts 10 years, so 40 pennants a year and 400 annual recruitment posters.
If it was me I would add another 600 posters (make it an even 1000) to split among Texas, Arkansas, and Mississippi and another 10 pendants a year to send out.
Doesn't have to be huge poster, full color 11x17 would be good, just a quick internet search and I've come up with this:
$300 Posters-Full Color 11x17
$100 Pennants-8x18 blue pennant w/ white&red
$400 Mail
Only thing I don't have is the poster design, I have no idea how much that would cost, couldn't be over $200?
So $1,000 a year and you keep Tech and it's accomplishments (updated and listed on the posters) out their for these kids to see...

You know I was just having some fun right? I agree that they should send something more appropriate.
Re: Admissions Departme nt
I also teach in Frisco, and teachers who are alumni are happy to assist in recruiting. Please send us info, flyers, posters, or anything. You seem to want our $$ but not our help. We have great kids in our current 6 high schools (4A - population of 1800 to 2000 each) with high school #7 opening in 2014 and #8 in 2015. Which means a high school population of 16,000 students who are 4 hours from Ruston.
Re: Admissions Department
In northwest AR for the holidays and saw an article about UofA enrollment increasing from 19k to 25k in five years. That is pretty impressive growth. Got me to wondering, how does Tech enrollment today compare to twenty-five years ago? Anyone know where to find those enrollment numbers?
Re: Admissions Department
I enrolled in '92, and I seem to recall the total enrollment being just over 10,000.
