Our former Tech/GSU/HS TNS beat writer Ethan Conley went to Michigan State. He was a really good "beat writer," too...or as good as TNS allowed him to be for Tech.

Most interesting article.

Ethan was a good guy too. I had a few beers with him a couple of times. He vividly remembers the Tech MSU game when Luke McCown beat the Spartans.

Have yall seen this article by Isabella...It is not him much writing but more talking to the Seniors.

I think you can see in their answers how much the school and city mean to them as well as the team and making the big dance. Hope yall enjoy.
Re: Terrific story by Isabella
I like this kind of human interest article. Our teams and student-athletes have also given him some good stories to write about. Would he be as good covering ulm?:shocked2:

You are correct, Don. With guys like Cody, Kenneth and Houston in football; and Speedy, Raheem and Michale in basketball, Tech has provided its beat writer with plenty of great material. Many, many other great player stories on the Tech teams, also.

Once again...superb read and great promotion of the culture of LA TECH.
Re: Terrific story by Isabella
Imagine 2 more beat writers almost as good as him. Then imagine a media receptive to their work. The possibilities are endless :D this was an awesome read.
Re: Terrific story by Isabella
As much as this board likes to complain about The News-Star (and Lord knows I've had my fair share of complaints through the years), it's also employed some pretty good beat writers over the past 15 years. Scott Beder, Ethan Conley, Jerit Roser and now Sean Isabella have all done a very good job covering Louisiana Tech athletics through the years, in my opinion. We've been pretty lucky to have quality writers who can tell interesting stories.

Agree whole heartedly.

I don't. Beder was the only one who could come close to Isabella, but TNS was still intent of him giving almost equal coverage to Grambling back then so our coverage was watered down.
We've had three stories this year that have been great. None of the other writers mentioned ever gave as much time, effort, or column inches to LaTech as any of those three stories. Not even when we were bowling.

We'll agree to disagree. Sean has more freedom than any Tech beat writer since I started following the team -- and that includes Beder, Conley and Roser. That has a lot to do with it. If those three had been covering Tech in a similar setup as what is available today, you'd have seen very similar stories. None of them lacked a work ethic or desire for quality coverage. However, the previous three were hamstrung a lot more than Isabella is.

More freedom in what sport other than mens basketball?
Beder's freedom helped motivate Tech to beat ULM a few years back in football at Malone.

I see. So the others are as good as Isabella, it's just that TNS never gave them a chance to prove it? Sorry. I'll just go with what I've seen, not what you (and Clyde) think.;)
