IMO, I think it would be better, more original, to come up with a unique design that incorporates the Tech Spirit, ie. Tech Bricks etc. I think completely recreating an old building may seem a little cheesy IMO. Plus I think this house should allow him to stay visible as much as possible, which means a fair amount of glass, which would lend itself to a new modern design. I do however like the old firehouse idea, we could incorporate aspects of that into the design. I also think it would be a good idea to post a poll with a few final design ideas to possibly decide which design we bring to the 16th floor.
Haha not to toot my own horn, but we are taught how to design buildings for this climate, so I know we can make just about anything work. Architects are problem solvers. If you think about it, our games are normally played as the sun is setting, meaning only one side of it would need to be "shaded". Trust me there are ways we can make him comfortable, while still being visible.
Take advantage of the publicity this is getting right now. Over the next few days, someone will pose the question to the Admin " What are you going to do better in the future to keep XXI from suffering the same fate as XIX and XX?". That is when DR will need an answer such as what you are propoosing, the 16th floor may actually need this "dog house" more than we need them right now.
Ok guys great news! I've been in contact with one of my professors and one a fellow student who is on the executive board for our community service club, Freedom By Design, along with me, and they are both fired up about this idea! They both want to get the ball rolling as quickly as possible.
I totally agree BhadDawg...right now, Tech XX's death has grabbed the hearts and souls of 12,000 students and 100,000 alumni. HIS death has hit home to ALL of us, and "Whomever" at the top can't ignore these numbers. It is also in the leadership's best interest to help TECH XX's legacy and death become a rallying cry for us all...fundraising, attendance at events, support for higher education in Louisiana. At this point, with all of the emotions stirred by XX's tragic death, I believe any expense associated with Bulldog009's idea of a DAWG CONDO will be a non-issue. It's just a matter of getting the word out. Heck the lady who was bullied on the school bus in NY just received a check for $750,000...all of which came unsolicited from donations based on a YOUTUBE video.
This tragedy has seemed to unite everyone from the casual "yeah I went to school at Tech but I don't follow 'em much" to our current students, to older DAWGS and those of us passionate DAWGS who camp out on the BB&B for any nuggets of Tech info (like yours truly).
NOW is the time!!
By my count we have gone through about 5 dogs in 20 years REGARDLESS of who is caring for him...
It's torture putting that breed through the grinder we put him through on game days in Aug, Sep & Oct regardless of the habitat we have for him to relax in -
I know it would not be a popular choice with a lot of you, but I really think this is the direction we need to look at
And BTW - Georgia is on their 4th dog since 2008
They are just not a healthy breed
I honestly do hear what you're saying, but except for what happened last weekend, Louisiana Tech has gone through ONE since 2008. I hate that UGA has lost so many dogs..what the heck are they doing in Athens?? And, as far as I know, XIX is still alive, right?
