This is Kid Rock's new song, "We The People". Yes, the words in this one are raunchy, but I do think Kid Rock makes his point.

In late 1998, Kid Rock was promoting his debut CD. Part of the PR campaign involved telephone interviews with college radion stations. (See where this is going?)
I had the honor of recording a roughly 10 minute phone conversation with the artist as a representative of KLPI. We shot the bull for a few minutes ... he asked about Louisiana and Ruston ("do they have Mardi Gras there?"), and I asked him what is was like touring all the time and if he got to visit Detroit (his hometown) often. Finally he asks me ... "So what do you think of the album?"
I was like "It's alright for what it is. But what this record is trying to do has already been done by Chili Peppers, 311, Korn, and others. I wish you the best, but I think the whole rap-rock thing is on its way out."
Kid Rock goes "You know what. F__k you, man. I though you were pretty cool. And I was about to send you a big bag of weed. But now I'm not."
Then his agent or whatever is back on the phone is like "whoa. sounds like you pissed off the Kid". We ended the interview, and then I was scolded by the KLPI manager (also my roomate) for failing to get the promo soundbite we wanted (eg. "This is Kid Rock and you're listening to KLPI")
Moreover, I was wrong about the rap-rock thing. It would continue chart hits for another 4-5 years before finally losing steam.
So that was a disaster.
Ooooh one other thing from that story -- I asked him if Eminem really was insane, or if it was just an act.
Kid Rock answered "Let me put it like this. If Dre and Snoop think you're a little off, you're more than just a little off."

Not best video quality.
Kinda surprised there was a lack of mention of his passing. Figured some of y'all would have been fans.

Here is where it comes from, I tried to play some version of Civilizations recently but couldn't get into it.
I have a love-hate relationship with those memories. On the whole, I think back on them as all-around good times. But then I remember of some of the stuff I said and did as a young man with all the power of a campus disc jockey and think "what an obnoxious little jackass"

I think I like Dolly's cover better. Middle kid asked "why did he have to go to jail just for being on the streets?" so I had to try to explain vagrancy laws.
speaking of spending time in the jailhouse for the crime of having no dough...
