This team (coaches and players all) should have already figured out how to play more of a complete game by game 5. The same output versus the USM’s, Marshall’s, and possibly UNT”s won’t cut it.

Holtz has been here since 2013. He has a 5th year QB with several years in his system as a starter. He’s had multiple years of recruiting. At this point we shouldn’t be struggling to beat FCS and no win teams. Yes, we’ve won 4 games, but those 4 teams are a combined 2 wins/15 losses on the year. If it’s not discouraging that we are barely beating these teams, playing as sloppy as we are, I don’t know what to tell you. At this point in Holtz tenure, we should be blowing these teams out of the water, but we are only a few plays away from being one of them.
That was one of the only overtime games that I was stressed the entire game. It was not exciting - just frustrating. Don't get me wrong, I am SO glad we got out of there with a win, but that was NOT a good game. I hope Rice can learn to win now and beat some of the top teams in the conference.
We are now 3-8 all-time in OT games. Knew we sucked at it. Last win in OT was in 2011 over Central Arkansas.
Rice out-gained us, and enjoyed the TOP 36+ mins to about 23 mins. First downs were even at 19. But, Rice demonstrated why they are now 0-5, they managed to blow a game they should have won. Rice lost this game more than Tech won it.
But, this is who Holtz is. We will struggle, other horrible CUSA teams will self-destruct for us, and we'll manage to get to 7-5, maybe 8-4 with even more luck. And we'll bowl again, and all will be right with the world. Ho hum... Just better hope we don't draw Appy State in the NO Bowl.
Looked just like the second half against Grambling. They ran at will and passed effectively abusing our supposedly good DBs. Not pretty but a W. Nothing to cause people to be excited or hopeful
Believe it when you see the stands in two weeks
1) Smith pulled the ball last week and it worked like it is supposed to. Not a single time last night.
2) What has our best RB gotta do to earn the start and the most PT?
Remember Crowton and Bicknell? That was fun.
It's a Holtz thing. He just wants to be the boss even if it hurts the team. Control freak...
This!
2-15.
That’s the record of the teams tech has beaten so far.
At least UMass won. Bumped their schedule up to 1-4. If North Texas beats Southern Miss, we may become bowl eligible with only one opponent having a winning record!
Here is the Tech-Rice game highlights courtesy of Stadium. (I hate the production by Rice, horrible audio mix and low quality footage)

So we are pretty good then because we beat Rice who barely lost to Baylor.
Rice certainly has one of the better defenses in CUSA. Offense not so much. Our D stayed on the field MUCH longer than necessary keeping our offense off the field. IF we don’t get our defense off the field & reduce the # of long drives & 3rd down conversions then the better offenses left on our schedule are gonna light is up. If our offenses was avg 35 pts per game I’d feel better but our offense so far is avg around 25 pt/game which will likely not be good enough against USM, UNT & Marshall.
I picked us to win by 6, 19-13. I didn't think we'd reach 20, but the OT period gave us that chance. Game went pretty much like I thought it would. And so far, the Dawgs have met my expectations at 4-1. We'll get to 5-1 after whipping UMASS, and then oh my! it starts getting tough. I am sticking with my 7-5 prediction, but there is the possibility of CUSA being even worse than I think it is.
