All this is to say that they have a cd called Out of the Silent Planet named for a book that I read just a few weeks ago. I am in the middle of one of its sequels now.
"Faith, Hope, Love" is a classic. Best 3-piece band ever. What you hear on the album is what you get in concert, thanks in large part to Doug Pinnick's 12-string bass.

Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde
One of the top albums ever recorded, and Docmarvin's personal torture chamber.

I stand by my assessment, though Rush would arguably 1b to a 1a King's X. Not a ZZ Top fan, though I really dig the beards. :icon_wink:

zz top is weird for me. about 75% of their songs are completely lame, but the other 25% are in my top 100. musically, they beat king's x by a long shot on the songs i like, but struggle to beat out kid rock on the others.

king's x is largely a nostalgia thing for me (much like "The Allies"--I gave away their CD in college, but I really miss it now), but I was never able to get into ZZ Top. I have to be in the "right mood" for Rush, and technically difficult music has always worn me out. I liked King's X because they are a good balance of musically unique but not needlessly complicated.
To un-hijack the thread a little, I've been listening to Skillet quite a bit lately.

Check out ZZTops MEXICAN BLACKBIRD
Re: What are you listening to Today?
velvet revolver -- contraband.
i was disappointed by this album when i first listened to it several years ago, but i decided to give it a second chance this week. i'm still unimpressed. if not for the explicit language, i would have sworn it was produced by steve taylor. it's especially disappointing because i really wanted to like it. the only redeeming factor is the heavy doses of slash, along with matt sorum occasionally beating the crap out of his trap set.
has anyone heard their newer stuff that can tell me if it's any better?
Re: What are you listening to Today?
Don't like Velvet Revolver.
Re: What are you listening to Today?
I thought the single from that album was ok. Fall to Pieces, not the Money cover. Not awesome, but pretty good. Never heard anything else I liked from them.
