How embarrassing for the Cowboys and Packers...
Both teams should fire their DC based on the logic of most of our fans.
No. I've explained a dozen times that it is silly for our fans to blame our DC, but not point blame at COYHCSH. His hire, gave him a raise, took several bullets for him during the year...
I also pointed out that great defense in college football makes for horrible TV. Our "mediocre" bowl game gained the 3rd highest rating due to " bad defense"
Love this post!! I avoided getting into this silliness about Baker. Clemson- Alabama 35-31 . defense points per game average Tech was 32 but offense in mid 40s -- you pay a price for hi-octane offense. But one thing I have learned is posting reality seldom gets positive respone-- the most worthless thread of of 2016 was intended to slam Higgins . how did that work out? again, majority of posters on that thread DID NOT rip RH but thread lasted way too long. I believe Coach will find a raise for Baker and he will be slammed for defense next year-- we are in wide open conference and seldom play ball control offense.. loved Diaz but doubt we will ever lead nation in INTs again or turnovers-- again, great post
That's a reason to have a lousy defense?
I'm starting to see some support for Baker. That's troubling. I know it's only a few posters, but if it becomes more of a trend across Tech Nation then we are condemned to mediocrity forever.
I know it won't happen, because it's nearly impossible to do these days. But, if Tech had a defense as good as our offense, we'd see more scores like 63-0, or maybe 63-10 (on a bad day), and against our better opponents (like WKU and some P5s) we might see something like 42-17 type score. Of course that would be boring and many of you would stop going to see your undefeated Top 15 (maybe Top 10) ranked Dawgs play.
I would love to see a great defense in Ruston! Let the other team punt 10 times per game. Works for me. But, first, I'd be satisfied just to see a non-crappy defense for a change. Can we start there? Ya know, with a "mediocre" defense rather than a CRAPPY one.
I could go for a defense that can get off the field on 3rd and 12.
Then compain about the guy who hired him and gave him the raise. Y'all act like the guy just got a job w/out interviewing.
I don't seem to remember Holtz getting all the credit for 2014. Manny sure was lauded for his efforts though. I am not worried about who is at fault. I just want it fixed.
Holtz is ultimately responsible and he'll continue to gain more of the blame if he chooses to keep Baker and our defense continues to struggle.
I don't believe we interviewed any other candidates so basically that's what happened.
You are correct though, Holtz made a mistake because he didn't want to change the scheme for a group of seniors with nfl talent. They could have learned any good scheme, taken to any good coaching, and played it well. That would have been better for Tech, them, our football team and program going forward than the last two years of coaching they have received.
